I looked amazing, those speakers do sound great indeed in pure direct for 2 channel playback.
Yep, finish is fantastic. I would've loved to get the rosewood but it wouldn't have matched current setup and decor.

Does pure direct default to 2.0? I usually use 2.1 stereo mode or Dolby Digital Pro logic IIx with panorama set to off, center width at 3 and dimension at 0.

Did some testing tonight. DPLII is out as it just doesn't sound good with the new setup. I like 2.1 stereo with Audyssey on. I tried pure but I prefer the previous setup. Pure does either 2.0 or 2.1 depending on the stereo setting when entering pure mode.

Ok well on my receiver it is Stereo Direct and it disable the sub. I have an Arcam receiver I assume you either have an Onkyo or a Denon since you are using Audissey.

Denon.. I was wrong with my earlier statement regarding Pure on the my receiver. Pure does default to 2.0 regardless of prior setting. I still prefer listening with 2.1 stereo with Audyssey though. Pure sounds good too. Those are my primary listening modes for music now that I've got good fronts.

Think RC10's could be used with the Veritas line? I can't find those V5.1 bookshelves anywhere...

It would, the V 5.1 are an evolution of the RC-10 so they sound similar except the V5.1 maybe a tad more forward in the mids probably mesures flatter than the RC-10 but all in all would blend really well with the current Veritas line. Finish is not the same though, Veritas Benefit from a High gloss Piano finish whether it is the Piano black or Rosenut. On the RC the finish is matte black ash and or matte rosenut.

Thanks, BigAl. I've got the V6.2 towers, matching center, and V minis for rears. Was looking at adding two more surrounds. I just cant find those 5.1's anywhere.

You're welcome use to be a proud owner of Energy speaker but I had to borrow a different route at some point. Gone are the days where they were made in Canada.

They do offer a tremendous value.

Just picked up a C-C1 from Ebay for under $90. Can't wait to put it with my C2's, hoping to eventually replace my surround sides and backs with matching Energy speakers. Might have to do some digging to see what was out back then.

What comes to worse C-R100 would work great as surrounds, they would be a closer match maybe than the current ones.

I truly enjoyed Energy speakers in one of my previous setups, what I liked from them for music is they had a nice high frequency rolloff so they were not ear fatiguing.

I hope you find something that works with them.

Thank you for the suggestion, I will have to keep an eye out for the c-r100's, I was also looking at the RVSS units as well.

It's nice to find some of these 1st gen speakers at almost a 3rd or 4th of what they cost new for sale now. I remember when I 1st heard the Energy speakers, C4's I believe. I was working at an A/V store as in an installer, blew me away with the sound quality.

Question I just thought of........... for my 7.1 setup would it be a better choice to get bipole (C-R100, RVSS) or direct (Take Classic) for the side and back surrounds?

To tell you the truth, it is entirely up to you, I liked the experience I had with the C-R100, you could get the C-R1 from Amazon also, I currently use direct radiating speakers as surrounds but rule of thumb bipole are the easiest speaker to integrate as surrounds because of their sound field and not directional sound. 4x C-R1 would blend perfectly with your fronts I believe.

There is a sticky about this here.

PART1

PART II

Thanks for the info and the link to the sticky, I have directs right now, I will have to purchase bipoles and try them out and see how the sounds compares.
