Very tempted as I see there are a few pairs for sale around the country. I just have to do some reading that in that Bipole thread you linked me a few post ago. I'd be replacing my direct surrounds with bipoles.

If you prefer Direct radiating you could look for C-1

Purchased a set of C-R100 surrounds from a seller online, had to join a forum to get them. Can't wait to put them in the system, never had bipole speakers before! Slowly converting all my speakers over to Energy, thinking Velodyne for a sub though.

Looking for two more surrounds to match my Energy Veritas 6.2 towers, 5.2c and v mini surrounds. Will anything besides the RC 10 work?

If you are lucky enough you could find a pair of Energy Veritas-S or the 5.1, look on Audiogon or USAUDIOMART or CANUCKAUDIOMART.

Question Energy e:XL-28p.....need help!

How do you POST NEW thread??!! Very sorry this is not a reply to the intended post, but I cannot find directions or help of any kind to find out how to make my own thread!

If anyone has knowledge of the Energy floor standing loudspeakers: e:XL-28p
I'd appreciate any advice or in site you could give! The owners manual is useless.

I am having trouble w/the powered subwoofers. I live in a small apartment and need to learn how to keep the base from getting me evicted! I also do not like the "boom" sound. I am unclear as to how to use the dials directly on the speakers themselves. Each speaker has two dials. Do both of them control any of the base output? Or is one dial for base and the other for the top speakers?

If the powered subwoofers are not plugged in, I'm assuming I'd not be getting any base or crappy base without them? Is this the case?

I also am not getting the "BLUE" light to come on at all from either speaker.
I do have them plugged in and as far as I can tell, the base is working to where they are supposed to come on.

Thanks for any and all help (and your patience!)

I haven't seen a pair of those in eons. Are the knobs labelled?

One, at least, should be gain. Turn it down.

The top dial says "Level"
The bottom dial says "Bass EQ"
They both have: -3db +3db

I do not know which one would be "gain" if either......(thanks for helping!)

level=gain

Bass eq is just that.

I'd set both -3...if you want less bass. Although buying that speaker...and not wanting bass is like buying a Ferrari and driving it in a school zone...

I have finally upgraded my front speakers from rc-30s to 70s! While I anxiously await their arrival I can't help but feel I am lacking in the receiver/amplification department. With my onkyo on the fritz I plan on upgrading soon. Do you guys think my current setup can handle the 70s for a while or should I be shopping for a new receiver and amplification now? Any suggestions in that aspect?

I would try it just to see but yeah definitely you should step it up seriously with your receiver, the RC-70 will be absolutely fantastic speakers.
Congatz on the new speakers.

Thanks BigAl. I think you're definitely right that an upgrade is necessary. I think the SR607s were struggling to power even the rc-30s. Do you have a receiver/amp you would recommend? Onkyo is offering me a TX-NR727 for $350 in exhange for the broken 607 receiver. This sounds pretty good, but they dont seem to offer a big amplification upgrade. They also don't seem to have pre-outs for separate amplification. What kind of ampification are these speakers going to need?

The RC-70 are not that bad to drive actually but they do benefit from quality amplification, what heve you planned for budget for a receiver?

Does it cost you anything to get the 607 replaced by the 727?

I would think something like an MRX310 from Anthem would be great, it only has 5 channels but it has pre-outs, replacable power cord, it also has the a great room correction software in ARC. Mind you it does not have all the bells and whistles some other big brand names have but it's a great receiver and does not struggle in multi-channel applications when called for.

I use to own Energy speakers prior to take the Totem route, I have tried many receivers and many speakers and Anthem has definitely impressed me te most with Arcam in terms of receivers because both have high quality amplification. Anthem is basically Paradigm electronics, they are the same company.

Wow that Anthem receiver looks awesome! I would have to do the MRX510 though because I have a 7 channel setup. Unfortunately, at this point in my life, I can't afford anything that expensive. I'm hoping to stay in the $500 range for now. I will eventually upgrade to something nice, but as a college student im poor enough as it is haha. Onkyo is willing to do the nr727 for $325. Without preouts though I'm looking at maybe the 717 or 818. what do you think?

Onkyo has always offered great bang for the buck performance wise but reliability was often an issue, I can understand with all the volume of receivers they produced and the quantity they sold, many customers had issues with service in the past but it seems now onkyo has finally listened to them.

The 717 would be a good choice for sure it's a great unit but if you want to try something else I would go for the Marantz 5008 at $399

Have you looked at Accessories for less? They indeed have the onkyo 717 for $499 with preouts

They sell factory refurb. units and they do have a great service, lots of positive feedback on A4Less.

I am in Canada so I cannot take advantage of them but since I see you are in Virginia then it's perfect for you.

Nice SR5008 from Marantz for $399 plus shipping with all the bells and whistles with preouts also.

Thanks so much for the suggestion! The 5008 seems like a great receiver not only in sound quality but also build quality. I'm definitely apprehensive to buy with Onkyo after my 607 went out in just three short years. Are there any major downsides to Marantz products/anything I should watch out for.

Not that I am aware of they are now part of the same company as Denon, they are usually pretty stable but honestly like all electronics there is always a risk.
