Much to most companies annoyance these forums exist so people who watch these films, from various different versions, runtimes, etc will nit pick, critique, or praise a release. Observationally people became annoyed by the Bill like practice of artificially trying to make this scarce thus inflating the price for "collectors". Nobody can say if this print was the exact runtime that every drive-in played across the US. DF never claimed it was the full uncut version, so could have ignored the whining, without the need to make this a hoarders is fleabay situation. That is the main grumble, not like the bigger boutique labels don't ignore problems on a regular basis.

There are many sources both online and in-print which state that "The House That Vanished" is under 90min runtime.

So, if CR did check and was like "well, my print is 89min, therefore I will market it as The House that Vanished instead of Scream and Die - maybe my print is a slightly longer cut of the typical US version?" then that would 100% make sense, especially as it was sourced from an actual 35mm drive in print. It also says 89 min on the back of the box for the runtime. Even doing research in this case, the sources you'd typically go to mostly indicate an under 90min runtime for THTV - even books in print like the one I pointed out earlier in the thread say THTV is the US cut with shorter runtime. So can you really blame CR for going along with what the typical sources you'd check out state for the titling vs runtime of the film? It is not uncommon for films of this decade to have different US and European cuts, some of this decade even have hardcore inserts that extend the runtime, etc.

When you have movies this old and in such RUINOUS condition, its not always going to be an exact science what you have and what actually was onscreen 40 years ago, especially when many sources support that the version titled "The House that Vanished" ran under 90min. Some have other evidence that contradicts this (and this evidence in itself is contradictory, most says 84min, but some sources indicate 95min, and one even 99min), but given all this varying evidence does anyone actually know 100% for sure what played onscreen in every drive in 40yr ago? Answer to that is no, but this 35mm print they used for THTV apparently did make the drive-in rounds (and it looks like it!).

Given the most recent eBay auction for Dark Force's The House that Vanished package just successfully sold for $28.50 shipped and there are listings up for $40, this is really much ado about nothing as you can get your money back flipping the release if you don't like it. Its not like you are going to suffer some huge loss if you don't like the cut version.
I own original paperwork from the American distributor that indisputably proves the American release, under the title THE HOUSE THAT VANISHED, runs the same length as SCREAM AND DIE. Dark Force used a print that was most likely cut by a regional distributor. Nothing wrong with buying it, just know what you're getting. I purchased it...will make a composite cut with my VHS at some point.

Welcome aboard, Dark Force. Will the fourth volume of the Drive-In series be available at Diabolik and Screen Archives, too, or solely via your Cartel site?

Thing is, its not actually scare. You can buy it from SAE right now:
http://www1.screenarchives.com/title...HOW-1973-1974/

But, CR has done this in the past (see: Necromancy, Vampire's Night Orgy) and since its partially their release they have the right to do so. Perhaps artificial scarcity is one way to make people realize that the release has value despite its flaws. After all if it didn't have value people shouldn't care if it's OOP. A lot of people will pile on a release that has flaws and then it won't sell, so sometimes taking it away is one way to make people realize that despite being flawed its still a nice release to have.

Yep - I have also seen several reviews or general listings of the American release of THE HOUSE THAT VANISHED dating to 1975, which give the run time as 95 minutes.

It's a shame that Ruined feels compelled to spread misinformation in this thread in order to run cover for DF (maybe a paid shill??).

Sure and we have a book by a British horror film historian that says it's 84 minutes as well as many online sources also claiming 84 minutes.

So which is it? 84? 95? 99? Cant be all 3 right? Since you don't want to spread misinformation I'm sure you can definitely answer this, please pick one (as you contradicted the previous poster's reportedly ironclad claim of 99 minutes) and provide the definitive evidence. Maybe you have a video from a 70s drive in you've clocked the runtime on?

(also appears we are back to the ever original "you work for / own stock in" insult haha)

Perhaps other labels (and to some extent their fans) are concerned with another player they will now need to bid against for licenses entering an already crowded market.

I don't care about all the drama and other bs. I enjoy the Drive-In line and will continue to support DF for as long as they release them.

maybe you're just a trolling idiot. Not everyone here fawns over o-cards, limited edition numbers, etc. I just enjoy watching the movies myself. Do those people who complain about stuff bother me? No. Why? I can't change it. Live & let live and don't be a jerk.
