I'm not sure what's going on with me....I usually just adore all the Marvel stuff (or at least the vast majority). But I'm just barely slogging through Loki. And I have zero interest in rewatching the other Marvel/Disney+ shows. Once was more than enough.
I hate to think that the 20+ film Endgame arc is going to be the only stuff I'll still be interested in. And, folks, I've read/collected/sold Marvel Comics for over FIFTY YEARS, so my lack of interest in the new stuff is quite surprising to me. I'm an old school comics guy, from when artists drew on paper and writers used a typewriter. It's very telling about myself when I say that I support almost zero new titles. One or two new books per month, at best. If it was the 1960's, 70's or 80's, I'd buy every Marvel book published each month. |

Give it some time and come back to the series later on. Perhaps they'll seem different when you revisit them. They're definitely not like the movies, but I like the variety. |

Yeah, if the finale sticks the landing, this will comfortably be the best of the D+ shows so far.
I think it benefits tremendously from being the only one thus far that doesn't feel on some level like it's table-setting for other things. Obviously it is; they're prepping us for multiverse shenanigans and all that, but compared to FaTWS, which was basically 3% story and 97% 'get these characters into the right costumes for the next movie,' and WV, which started strong but petered out right at the end in order to get everybody where they needed to be for Multiverse of Madness, Loki feels like a story told for its own sake, rather than so he can be at a certain point for...uh...whenever he next shows up. |

I’m at a point now where I’ve written off the series as a disappointment. That’s not to say I haven’t enjoyed it, the newest episode is fun, but the whole show has felt like constant busy work for other stuff. It’s a shame they’ve taken the most interesting character in the franchise and get him trapped between tedious plot mechanics and repetitive character drama. All three of the Marvel shows have suffered from the same issue of the storytelling getting baggier and clunkier with the extended runtimes. The thing I really like about the film are how they’re able to malleable balance big plot ideas with illustrious character moments that feel effortless, but with longer runs the shows feel like reiterating information and breaking apart motivation with action for padding.
It’s a shame since I really want to like all of them, and this one in particular, but they’ve all felt rather disposable in terms of getting A. Character to B. Movie or Concept A ready for Movie B. |

Thus far with the D+ series I do agree there held back a bit by having to move pieces around, at least the first two anyway. Still though I felt within that they were fairly original with some good drama to them, definitely a step up from generic origin stories. Loki has definitely benefited from less of that and honestly just having a bit more variety and originality to it. The previous two I felt conked out a bit after they'd played out their original plot setup depending mostly on drama/performance after that were as Loki only stuck with that setup for a couple of episodes and has come up with a lot of other interesting stuff since. It is pretty obviously "MCU does Dr Who" but honestly I think its more original/fun than any of the rebooted Who to me which to me has always been lacking in real imagination. |
