I was also expecting a bit more from Warcraft 3D, maybe due to the huge build-up people were giving it or maybe it was the price.

But all is not lost, next time I watch, I'll use LG's Depth Boost (+5 should be enough).

Also, there was an article in Entertainment Weekly about how movies that tank in American keep getting sequels.

Apparently, USA box-office has been down in recent years and global numbers are now the biggest factor.

I'm guessing they could make a sequel for about half what the first movie cost, due to re-using assets and costumes?

I know what you're talking about, but only because I've seen that in some PS3 games that drop into super low resolution for 3D.

On 4K passive sets (mine's an LG), you won't see jaggies in movies due to TV using full HD 3D.

1.85 ratio is particularly stunning, you can sit forward on your seat and be amazed. Everything is right...there.

There aren't many blu-rays I'd pay 40 quid for, but I'm a disaster movie junkie, so this purchase was only a matter of time. I don't regret buying it. Whenever the story's out at sea, it's thoroughly gripping. Less so on shore. The film was clearly not shot with 3-D in mind. It's mild to medium throughout, though it does become consistently better in the second, more dramatic half, around the actual rescue.

The Finest Hours is a good film overall, an excellent one if you're into disaster/ survival films. The 3-D makes just enough of an impression to justify the conversion, but at 40 quid, it's difficult to recommend unless you're a die-hard 3-D or disaster fan.

Got my copy House of Wax 3D in the mail from BB.

The cover art is so evocative that I was hoping for some really cool disc art...

Sadly no, the disc is black & white only. Is that blood or wax? I wish the disc art was in color.

I bought it from Rahul-and-I on ebay. He doesn't appear to have any left, but he does have a website:

https://rahulandi.com/

It's not listed on there, but it might be worth checking back now and then--the website and ebay--or even contacting him directly. He imports from India to the US, I believe. It's a good service, invaluable even. Unfortunately, the pound is in the gutter right now; as a UK buyer I picked the worst possible time. I just didn't want to miss out.

Hope you manage to find one!

I have e-mailed the information address https://rahulandi.com/ but never got a response. I've pinged a buddy of mine from India to see if there was any way for him to get it.

Bought House of Wax [Blu-ray 3D] for $8.70 on amazon. Sold out but hopefully ship soon. My cover looks to be in color. Frank not sure why you got a B/W cover?

The "disc art" is black and white, the cover is in color.

The 3D was amazing but the film it's self was dreadful. It's a long 90 mins.

Since I've seen Evil Dead II countless times, I thought I'd see what it looked like converted to 3D and what do you know, my TV made a decent job of converting it. The lamp outside the cabin was usually wrongly placed but for the most part it looked so good that when I switched it back to 2D it wasn't five minutes before I'd switched it back to 3D again.

After that I finally got around to watching Rio in 3D

Not the strongest 3D I've seen but certainly satisfactory enough and better than Disney/Pixar - good separation and depth and there's a lot of mild/medium pop-out, with beaks and birds constantly breaking the screen barrier. It seemed to get stronger as it went on, with the best 3D saved for last, as is common these days. The story was fairly generic but I get pretty loaded before I watch these things so my brain is quite happy to just enjoy the show. I will have to watch the sequel now.

After watching the above film, I had to scratch my head at some of the comments I've seen both in regards to the 3-D and the quality of this film. Personally, I found both to be excellent. In regards to the 3-D, there is excellent depth throughout with a handful of near pop-outs and one excellent pop-out near the beginning of the film (the cannon). Also, the picture and sound quality are equally excellent. Crystal clear picture with a great Dolby Atmos track. Some excellent LFE near the end that had my walls shaking. Finally, I am not sure why this film was so poorly reviewed. Perhaps it is just a matter of my own personal taste since I seem to have a soft spot for these much maligned action-adventure films that do poorly at the box-office, The Lone Ranger and John Carter 3-D immediately spring to mind, and Tarzan is no different. Really enjoyed the film and I am already looking forward to revisiting it sooner than later. Highly recommended.

Agreed - the colours just popped, I couldn't believe how bright the pink frog was, even given the 3D glasses. It is a seriously good-looking disc.

As for the film, switching the action from Rio to the Amazon made good sense in terms of keeping the movie different from the first one though again I found myself simultaneously impressed by the 3D (there's a LOT of action out in front of the screen) and disappointed by the missed opportunities for pop-outs (e.g. a spider on a string ends at the screen instead of coming out of it). But it still wipes the floor with Disney/Pixar and is a real pleasure to watch in 3D.
