Oh, so you haven't seen the stories where Josh Trank was threatening to shoot puppies in the face on the set?

At this point I am surprised those stories haven't popped up yet. However that does remind me of the time a movie director threatened to kill a child actor's dog so that he would cry on cue.

Ah come on Trank. Someone needs to punch Miles Teller already. You came so close and didn't follow through. I've been cutting you slack for awhile but this is the last straw.

Just saw this and I have to say, it wasn't that bad. Clearly there's been some kind of attempt to patch things up in post-production - I doubt very much the time jump was in there from the start - and it certainly doesn't match up to any of the other superhero movies made in the last few years; but I thought there were some interesting things in there and a couple of good moments that pointed to a MUCH darker take than we've got here.

It felt to me like a decent one-hour pilot to an FF TV series. Had it been that, instead of a feature film, I think we'd all be talking about it as a pretty promising start. I see no reason at all why they couldn't make a sequel to this. The cast were pretty good - I'd just like to see them DO something, and preferably in this dimension.

BTW, on the Trank thing, has it occurred to anyone that maybe the guy was suffering from some kind of clinical mental illness whilst he was making this? I think there's a lot of people should be ashamed of the stuff they're saying about him when we don't really know what went on. I don't think there's many people here have the first clue about what's really involved in making these things. There's more cluster-f***s happening than people know: This has just been an extraordinarily poorly handled case.

The big studios aren't hiring young directors to helm these blockbusters out of kindness. They're doing it because a) they think they'll be able to reach their key demographic, b) because they think they'll do as they're told and c) because they're cheap. As such, they need to take responsibility for the fact that some of them are going to buckle under the immense pressure. They should be protecting them in a very real sense i.e simultaneously guaranteeing to fund a low-budget project of that artist's choosing. At least that way they'd have one more chance to prove themselves if the movie goes pear-shaped.

Why the hell would they gurantee someone a movie of the directors choosing if they make a big budget movie? That would breed laziness. The director not putting his all into the big budget movie because he is already guaranteed another film he feels passionate about. Where is the incentive for him/her to give it their all? A movie they get to make that is a more personal project should be a reward for their hard work. not a gurantee.

I would think it would be a better Idea to hire people in the first place that have a passion for the current project.

'Fantastic Four' Got So Bad, Miles Teller and Josh Trank Nearly Beat Each Other Up

I nearly slept with twins once. I asked if they wanted to sleep with me and they looked at me like I was crazy.

True story.

I am afraid you don't understand how this internet thing works. If there is no source online of any kind, it clearly did not happen.

The funny part is most of this 'OMGZ, did u hear the latest!?!!?!?!?!' is probably more or less true. The rub is, it's all pretty trivial too.

Miles Teller and Josh Trank yelled at each other.

No punches thrown. No pushing and shoving. Just two guys yelling at each other.

Wow.

It is really a shame that the BTS shenanigans are far more entertaining than the actual movie.

Here is an Idea for FOX. Next time they reboot the Fantastic Four they should film the Behind the Scenes footage and actually release the film as a documentary making of Fantastic Four Title. Sounds like it would have done better

I don't know about you but whenever I accept ANY job I give it my all, whether it's a "passion" project or not. Anybody who doesn't have that attitude isn't worth a damn in the first place.

In fact, guaranteeing a director a low-budget "personal" film after their blockbuster would be in everyone's interests. The film-maker would relax somewhat, knowing that their entire career isn't riding on one film; knowing that they had a personal project coming up would make them more sanguine about compromising their vision to the studios' demands; and knowing that they were locked in to work with the same people afterwards would make it more likely that both sides remained as civil as possible throughout.

Mostly, in these cases, what happens is that the director has made a personal project that's done well. That's why they get asked to do the blockbuster. Colin Trevorrow, Marc Webb and Josh Trank could all have got personal projects off the ground but instead they went with the big commercial films. I'm sure each of them had some interest in their respective blockbusters; but I'm sure the possibility of becoming millionaires figured in there somewhere.

Again, I'm not sure people know how Hollywood operates. It's a short-term business, mostly. They have decades of expertise in seduction behind them: If they want an artist to work with them, they shower them with flattery, money, gifts, opulence. It's insincere but it's effective on most. If/when you don't give them what they want, all of that's withdrawn and you become the lowest form of life on earth to them. It's brutal and very psychologically damaging. Any sympathy for studios expressed in these threads is extremely misplaced.

guess it goes to show that these trivial things are much more enterataining than the actual movie itself

I see that Josh Trank's cousin, uncle, brother and sister are still busy denying any and all possible wrong on his part, in spite of multiple sources (one in this very thread) saying the countrary.
Keep it up guys, soon it won't matter anyway as the movie (and possibly its director) fade back into the limbo of the collective unconscious reserved to bad blockbusters released during the summer.
But your loyalty is appreciated I'm sure!

Yeah, because Fox treating him like crap couldn't have possibily led him to a breakdown.
I like how people give a pass to what Ridley Scott did on the set of Blade Runner and blame the producers while with Trank it's all his fault.
