Just watched Neco-Ban Cats In Your Life
![]() The first thing I noticed was that it was AVC SBS 3D and not true MVC 3D blu ray. Very low budget, digital looking, but real 3D nonetheless. Mostly depth, but some pop outs. It's only an hour and four minutes too. The plot is simple. It's just an old guy babysitting his granddaughter while cats wander around his house. He spends a chunk of the film on the roof of the house. Many of the cats look very young and the staging of their scenes is blatant. They come out of boxes where they've obviously been placed. There are shots of cats in bowls and less probable places - in a watering can, washing machine etc. All set to tinkly music. It's all a bit soporific - not much happens though at one point I was wondering whether it was all going to end in a horrific suicide, so there was a touch of suspense in there. It's Japanese, so naturally ladies underwear features in the plot. You want to see a guy putting pink knickers on a cat, in 3D? This is the film for you. |

![]() Technical presentation is similar to previous Disney 3-D releases. That is, a conservative 3-D presentation with decent depth throughout but little to no pop-outs or near pop-outs. Otherwise, excellent picture and sound quality. But, nothing exciting to report 3-D wise. As for the quality of the film, it shines in parts but struggles to engage in others. IMO, the Red Queen (Helena Bonham-Carter) steals the show. I was quite entertained when she was on-screen. The Mad Hatter OTOH, felt quite flat. In making him a sympathetic character, they robbed him of his madness (so to speak). The rest of the characters were somewhat unmemorable but serviceable for the most part. Finally, I think this film had big shoes to fill since the previous film did so well. But that film had the luxury of following an already familiar tale and part of the fun of that film was enjoying the reinterpretation of it by Tim Burton (if you are into that sort of thing). In the end, Alice Through the Looking Glass is not a bad film (by my standards anyway), but certainly a step below its predecessor. If you are on the fence with it, maybe wait till Amazon UK has it on sale later down the line. At a reduced price, it is an easy recommend because it is still enjoyable entertainment. |

![]() Wasn't expecting much from it, good job really as its a naff film. The humour falls flat on its face & Kate McKinnon & Leslie Jones are god awful. The 3D is impressive though. Love the way the image extends beyond the frame, some decent pop-outs & the IMAX scene at the end looks great. |

It scared the hell out of me because I am very afraid of heights. Knowing I was sitting on the couch in my living room didn't help calm me down. Those scenes on top of the twin towers in THE WALK are the reference points for home theater 3D. |

Lichtmond: The Journey
![]() More of the same. If you played around with Autodesk 3D Studio in the early 90s, you will feel right at home. The animations have their charm but are not really good in a traditional sense. The 3D is ultra-strong as in the other releases. A bit too strong for projection since at least my eyes had some trouble to lock in on some very far away objects due to the extreme separation between the left and right eye images. The sound/music is playful as well with lots of multichannel hopping/ping-pong stuff. And the lyrics and poems are cheesy as always. Lots of fun for fans and puzzled faces for all others. ![]() The disc is English friendly and I guess region free (at least I'm quite sure my player was still set to region A as I watched it). |

Hi Joe D Oh I agree the film does have some cracking 3D. I don't have a problem with heights at all. Hopefully the next time I watch it again in 3D I won't feel sick. It's a great film. |

Watched Ghostbusters last night and loved it. It was awesome how the action kept breaking out of the black bArs on the top and bottom.
Really good 3D generally too and I did find it funny! |

So today I finally got to see It Came From Outer Space in 3D
![]() I find that the 1.33:1 aspect ratio works well for 3D, it keeps my eyes from wandering too much, the lack of colour also helps. This is a good looking film. The framing and staging of shots helps accentuate the 3D, as does the editing - there are plenty of beautifully layered shots stretching from foreground to background and characters often move between layers and/or come out of the frame. It isn't as extreme as I was hoping but that was probably because almost all of the pop-outs were in service to the story - in any case, from rocks bouncing past my face to weaponry pointed at my face, I didn't feel short-changed. Considering how cheaply available this is, region free, there's no excuse not to buy it. |
