I would never seriously contrast having a spouse with owning any kind of property. Two per day is just an average; I have many interests outside of film. Last edited by Vilya; 02-17-2018 at 05:02 AM. |

I made the switch to digital hd near the end of year 2016. Last year, I wasn't sure if I wanted to stay with digital hd. I switched back to physical media and used it about 3 months and hated my experience with it, especially with the unreliable Sony X800 4k UHD blu-ray player that I tried out a few times. So I switched back to digital hd and my experience with it is superior than I had with both physical media and video streaming on the Sony X800. When I put my 4k movies on sale on eBay, I had to sell them for 60% to 70% less than I paid for. People here stated that physical media is still selling well, especially 4k movies. I don't think thats true at all. When I go to Best Buy or Frys Electronics to shop or to browse, I see no one the physical media movie section. I see more people in the video game section, and buying, looking at media streamers instead of 4k blu-ray players and hd blu-ray players. |

I buy the vast majority of my discs online and I suspect many others do the same. Better selection, competitive pricing, free shipping, and the convenience of home delivery make shopping online ideal for me. I would not extrapolate observed floor traffic during the narrow window of one's visit at local brick and mortar stores to indicate the market demand as a whole; we have actual sales data for that. Not to mention his last point comes over as arrogant I think. This guy really thinks he is someone imo.

I did a factory reset with update reinstall and this issue still happens. It's fine right after the factory reset, but then after watching a few TV shows in my iTunes library, the total episode count in one of the TV shows went down by one today. I sent feedback about this issue to Apple a month ago. Also another weird thing I noticed is that when Quick Start is enabled, two episodes in The O.C. streamed in SD, were juddery in motion, and frame rate matching did not kick in, out of the 19 episodes I watched so far of the series. If I disable Quick Start then those episodes stream in HD, motion is smoother, and frame rate matching kicks in, and this issue happened in both the iTunes TV Shows app and the TV app on my Apple TV 4k.

At the end of the day, there's just not the same level of choice outside of the mainstream than with physical media. Had iTunes every movie out on DVD or blu-ray (that was still in print) then I wouldn't hesitate to switch over despite any lack of nostalgia of having a physical copy. But alas cult films is one thing but digital services here in the UK don't even have a large amount of studio titles.
Also most here are probably in the US, you have to understand we don't have VUDU, Movies Anywhere or any of those services in the rest of the world. Rights issues also mean we don't have access to certain titles either that we could otherwise import perhaps at a cheaper price than a potential digital version would have cost. Hollywood really messed up big time in the rollout for digital HD. The rest of the world is being dominated by streaming because at least Netflix and Amazon Prime have given a damn about global expansion. Will we even get Movies Anywhere in the UK? Who knows, no one is talking about and UV here is pretty much dead. |

I never considered placing a disc in a player's tray to be anything resembling work anymore than I consider launching an app to be strenuous. Finding the title on my alphabetically arranged shelf takes no longer than finding a specific title within an app. Watching a movie either way requires the same amount of time. Ease of watching and time usage are essentially equivalent.
The similarity ends there, in my opinion, and there is no need for me to repeat the reasons for my preferred viewing method. I am happy with my choice; others are happy with theirs, and our individual happiness is what matters. Last edited by Vilya; 02-17-2018 at 08:23 PM. |

Personally I prefer streaming digitally over discs anymore. The changing of the disc doesn't bother me so much as the physical clutter of tens (or hundreds) of movies and their cases lying around and I'm not the type that takes pride in displaying my collections. Nothing wrong with that, but I'd just prefer to have less clutter. Also, the disc thing can get a little annoying when you want to just marathon a show one afternoon. Netflix spoiled me for binge watching.
I went all digital on my video games pretty much from the launch of this console generation and that really opened me up to the idea of a digital movie collection. I don't really worry about my internet going out or my collection of movies and games disappearing one day. Plus, on the positive side my buddy and I get to share our games collection on PS4 so we're both saving money, and I get to share my iTunes/Vudu movie collection with my sister and her family and also my parents so it's kind of like a communal collection and we can all watch any title whenever we want even though we live hundreds of miles apart. |
