Default Re: missing 100th anniv titles at FS

Went to my local FS today - shock and awe - the whole movie section is being "reset" (everything moved around) and seems to me to be a lot smaller.

They had none of these clearance steels, and not many steels at all period.

Re: the 100th anniv titles that were supposed to be out on Sept. 4th, the guy that was in the "resetting" process said it is likely they pushed back the date for FS due to this full reset. He said he had loads of boxes for Tuesday, though, so perhaps they will be out this week.

Let's hope.

It's been going on store by store for about 8-9 months. It doesn't seem realistic that the film industry would delay some catalog releases across Canada just to suit one local store's new planagram, but who knows.

Sorry, I was being FS-centric in that the guy thought maybe they would have them out at FS this week.

You are correct that the industry wouldn't change just for FS - I guess I forgot it wasn't just FS that didn't have them.

I have this set, got it on an online sale at the same price a few months back. I like it and think its a good set. Yes it sucks that its G1 size, but if you display it instead of just file it away with the rest of your collection it doesn't look as bad.

one of the reasons has to do with my last post on this thread .. (FS protecting themselves with Price labeling and accuracy policy aka SCOP) .. they are no longer going to individually price the Blu Ray's .. it's going to be MUCH easier for the employees when it comes time to do the price changes .. hence the focus will be on the new enforcement of Price Matching and eliminating the possibility of SCOP ..

each Blu Ray movie is going to have there section .. Blu ray's under 30$, 20$, etc ... 3D, Universal 100th Anniversary, box sets, themese and etc ...

I think it looks nicer and cleaner ..
I'm not sure if I will like this set up. It could work, but if they have too many sections it could be hard to find a specific title if you did not know which category they put it under. We will have to see I guess.

Nice. My local store had nothing in any of these discounted steels. I am heading to Toronto for a work conference next week, hopefully I will be able to score some up there.

Got the Green Hornet and Priest steelbooks for $12.97 each today.

Also got the Jaws digibook for $19.99. The shelve price was $29.99 but scanned in as $34.99. I mentioned the SCOP to get an additional $10 off which made it $19.99.

I have yet to use SCOP (or encounter a situation where I could) but was wondering if it is that easy? Do the CSRs put up a fight and does management need to be involved? I love deals but don't want to have to fight with these people for it.

I have never had a problem at Future Shop. They just get their manager to approve the price override.

Best Buy is a different story. One time the CSR was absolutely sure the SCOP did not apply. He said a bunch of things including that he is studying law at university and he knows that the SCOP is not applicable here since he knows the law very well. I asked for the manager and sure enough the SCOP applied. Made the CSR look like a fool. And to top this all of when I later went to Best Buy to work the same CSR was assigned to train me.

At another Best Buy location I argued for 30 minutes albeit it was a bit more complicated (it involved both the SCOP and the DVD trade in deal). The manager finally conceded when I threatened to call the head office. He was arguing that I could not combine promotions when in fact the SCOP is not a promotion.

I studied Mechanical engineering, but failed most of my classes as I recall. Show me a degree and I might listen. Some people.

Are you sure? I've seen some completed changeovers and they are being done for one reason: recapture floor area. I wouldn't call it nicer, it's crammed. The new plans are less than 50% area with space reallocated to higher profit centers and preparation for smaller stores. SCOP is so minor it's not even on corporate radar, and most direction current comes from US which has no SCOP

^My thoughts exactly - when I was there yesterday, there was a whole row (both sides) that used to be movies that was no longer; and to me it didn't seem like there was as much stock. I even asked the guy doing the re-stocking whether the section got smaller - he just played it off that it was moving around, etc.

Again, he told me he had loads of boxes to put out before Tuesday, so I guess we'll see.

Same thing at the Future Shop location I went to yesterday. They movie department was getting smaller by 2 aisles. Also I have been noticing over the last two weeks Future Shop has been putting alot of their DVDs and blu-rays on clearance. In particular their Asian, Anime and Sports titles. Guess they are clearing out the low selling titles to make room for the downsizing.

I'm going to my FS on wendsday and im interested to see what changes have been made, i know they have already set up about a 5 foot area on one stand of 14.99 titles, im hoping to get ahold of some of those steelbooks on clearance too, i'm pretty sure there are quite a few resident evil copies there, hoping theres some left.

On a side note walmart also seems to be doing something, not sure what but they're stock seems to be depleting and racks look like theyre not being restocked, anybody else notice this?

It's happening everywhere. Ever since the video chains closed up (BBV and Rogers), I'm noticing retail and electronic stores reducing their size of stock. Almost like they accepted the demise of physical media because no on rents them anymore.

I've had a hard time finding movies at some of my local stores the past year. I hate to sound negative but I think it will be the sign of the times and we will be forced to buy online and overpriced.

You would think that since no one is renting the chains would take advantage and try and push home video releases , it's a big market is it not?
