The plane sequences are still spectacular. I think the stuff on the ground is very stilted and forced. So half an hour of Top Gun is brilliant.

Agreed. Top Gun was spectacular from a technical standpoint, but as a film with a story and characters it's shallow all across the board with eyerolling machismo and face value character goals.

On a side note, the music score during the aftermath of Goose's demise with the somber sad moments was laughable. I've heard less cheesy emotional cues from a Full House episode.

Oh, absolutely. I'l take it a step further. As much as I love Candyman, Lord of Illusions (especially the director's cut) is the best movie with Clive Barker's name on it, and one of the best horror films of the 1990s. The atmosphere of that movie...I get chills just thinking about it.

this is one of those rare films that everyone seems to love and I find it to be utterly atrocious on almost every level!
