You can't get him until you beat the Challenges. I managed to beat the 1st challenge but stuck on the 2nd one.

My advice: First playthrough = on normal, 100% guaranteed that maxing out everything is possible

Second playthrough = on easy to get the 5hr trophy

I must admit though, i've never tried on the harder settings, I don't see a point since the only game difference is that the enemies take more energy from you and are much harder to kill. Normal strikes the balance nicely.
I do agree with you on that. However, not every game has this balanced on normal difficulty. There are games made for the hardcore gamers that like to suffer (jk'n ) like Prinny for the PSP... I would love to play that game but I just don't have the time needed! So, easy mode should always be there too. There's also the contrary, Torchlight is a PC game that on normal difficulty is so easy that it even detracts from the fun, in my opinion.

I have a general question about the collection: do the GoW1 harpy glitch still work? If yes, they could try to detect it and disable trophy acquisition afterwards... I'm not into trophies anyway, just curious.

Another one: are the game CG movies better in quality? I've seen a comparison video and found them better, but gametrailer's review says that their improvements pale in comparison with the game's higher resolution.

Truth, but you do need to be VERY good at putting combos together to do so. Most people just mash buttons and kill stuff with the O button. That's not going to get you enough orbs by the end of the game; you really have to dig in and chain as many combos as you can manage.

And as Marine Mike mentioned earlier, using the Medusa Head more than the handful of times where it's absolutely necessary will likely kill your chances.

The way to get the extra orbs you need is to linger in the areas where there are infinite enemies, and pick up combo orb bonuses from killing those enemies.

Just running through and slaughtering everything you can will not generate enough orbs to max out your skills as I recall.

P.S. People on GameFAQs are idiots.

I am 97% with the trophies on GOW2, just need the glitched one that didnt open for me last time. I just got to the sister of the fates part, so i'll be doing separate saves the entire way in case it doesnt unlock and i need to re-do the fights over and over till i get the stupid trophy. It happened to someone else but they said eventually it unlocked after many, many retries.

I KNEW there was a special trick, and I just remembered what it was for the infinite orbs. For those who want to clear some relatively easy trophies (all the hitman trophies, maxed skills):

MAJOR SPOILER TRICK (God of War 1, any difficulty at Normal or higher):

[Show spoiler]On Normal or higher difficulty, get far enough to the Medusa fight. After killing Medusa, switch your magic to Poseidon's Rage (right on d-pad). Do NOT turn any of the minotaurs into stone.

In this room, your magic constantly regenerates. Almost fast enough to keep up with your magic use when activating Poseidon's Rage.

If you have enough orbs when you enter the room, upgrade your Poseidon's Rage to level 2 (but NOT to level 3! I'll explain why in a moment!).

At level 2, the Rage has really good coverage but doesn't kill the minotaurs except at point blank if you mash the button after activating.

So how does this help, you ask?

Well, here's how it works:

The minotaurs spawn endlessly. There are always 3 of them (except when they're respawning, and they respawn FAST).

You have effectively unlimited magic in this room.

For chaining big combos of hits you get bonus orbs. Lots and lots of bonus orbs.

So when you start, fire off a Rage in the center of the room. Mash the button to make it do more damage and last a little longer.

When its done, if any minotaur is near you with a over its head, quickly approach and tap to start the brutality kill - which incidentally puts your chain timer on hold while you're doing so - and also lets you regenerate magic if need be.

Normal is the best difficulty for this. They're a little too flimsy on Easy to make for easy chains. Spartan is OK too if you're moderately careful. I don't recommend trying this on God difficulty unless you're a seasoned veteran.

If there aren't any minotaurs that are weakened in range, pause for just a quick moment (give yourself a little more time to regenerate magic, you've got a little time to continue your chain - make use of it!). Then fire off another Rage.

With good timing, your magic bar won't deplete very fast - you can do this at least 5 times in a row before you run out of magic faster than the regeneration effect will replenish it. More if you time your delay after each Rage well. If your magic gets low, start the minigame with any weakened minotaur to put the combo meter on hold and completely replenish your magic.

With a little practice, you can chain to the maximum of 1000 hits, clear all of the X hit trophies, and score a mountain of free red orbs. As many as you like.

If you hit 1000 combo, just stop fighting and let the combo meter reset so you can earn more orbs. The chain combo doesn't give any more orbs past 1000 hits, but you can just start a new chain and it'll start all over and give you more orbs again.

Just started playing God of War II again and I have to say....Kratos became quite the b*tch after defeating Ares.

After all the Gods helped him defeat one of their own, he spazzes out and is all "The Gods have abandoned me" because they wouldn't erase the memories of what he did.

Seriously...WTF? I guess all those weapons and help they gave was total abandonment.

Then in GOW2 he REALLY becomes a spoiled brat. I was actually intentionally losing sometimes when playing it on PS2 just to see him die and shut up. lol

I REALLY hope GOW 3 doesn't have him sulking around like he should be in the new Twilight flick.

Emo Kratos is not cool.

BTW: am I the only one that didn't like how they switched up the controls for GOW2 from GOW1?

I know it was like that on the PS2 games but it irritated me then too.

in GOW1 opening a box was R2. Now it's hit R1 and then tap the O key. Same with opening doors.

Small change but still....a bit irritating.

so I went to bestbuy yesterday to get a copy of the game,
but I couldn't see it and find it on the shelves, so I asked one of the sales people if they still had more stock/copies..

and the idiot tells me that the game is not yet released, so I tell him that it has been since tuesday.
instead of checking, he come up with some lame excuse/story
"Oh they delayed the release, which is a bummer cause I wanted to get a copy too. What I think is, they are delaying it until march to release as a trilogy"
so I just go uh-huh and head over to customer service, I told them what happened and it didn't seem like it was a big deal that one of their employees was an idiot, but they checked their stock in the computer and found that it was still in their warehouse.. [/rant]

Interestingly enough, my friend (who posts here as Superking) had the exact same thing pulled on him by Blockbuster when he went to pick up New Mario the other day.

I don't like the Kratos character at all. He's so one dimensional and there's nothing really to like about him. He's violent, will kill anyone, and that's about it. But I still enjoy the games too. The levels are so epic and amazing to navigate.

Gotcha. I actually like Kratos a lot. I don't see him as 'emo.' To me, 'emo' suggests a general, feckless discontentment. Whereas, Kratos is pretty well focused in his extreme pissed-offedness. And where an emo kid would just lock himself in his room and cry when things get tough, Kratos takes the quite opposite approach with extreme brutality for anyone who tries to slow him down.

I also like the idea that his anger at the gods is something he can actually act upon. I would imagine that many folks have, at one time or another, felt some bitterness toward their god, creater, or what have you because of some hardship or tragedy that life may have rendered on them, but ultimately that's a position of powerlessness. Kratos, on the other hand, seems ready, willing, and able to tear down heaven and earth to get satisfaction, and as the game player, I find that expression to be a great deal of fun.

Well I get what you're saying, but I meant emo in it's most direct explicit definition, re: emotional. In a whiny kind of way.

In the 1st game, the entire mountain of Olympus helped him out, and even Hades helped him out, giving him weapons and whatnot.

Then when he grabbed that sword in the Ares fight, he admitted "I still have allies on Olympus."

Then after all they did, because they wouldn't do MORE for him, he took the attitude of "you betrayed me, you turned your back on me" so he goes to kill himself.

What kind of b*tch move is that? It's like the spoiled teenage girl on that MTV Sweet 16 show where she gets everything handed to her, and then when her mom shows up and surprises her with a brand new car, she flips out because it's not the car she wanted.

She then starts crying and talking about how her mother has "humiliated" her and everything.

In this game the Gods have handed Kratos everything he could possibly want, even elevating him to God of War, allowing him dominion over the lands.

His reaction is to whine and cry because he has to accept responsibility and live with the horrible things he did in the past.

And like Athena (?) said at the end, "we never said we'd make you forget" only that they would forgive.

And so Kratos ASSUMED (and we all know what happens when THAT happens) that that included the wiping out of all his memories of what he did. And when that didn't happen, suddenly he got all emotional and butthurt over that fact and spazzed out, causing the events that occurred in God of War II.

And the problem I had with II was that he's essentially manufactured this betrayal. He stepped out of line, and Athena came down and tried to stop him and when Kratos destroys her, Zeus comes down and is like "Sorry it comes to this, but you're done, kid!"

That's like destroying your office and when you get fired and arrested, you start spazzing out about how your boss betrayed you. lol

Started playing GoW I last night. Admittedly, this is my first time playing a God of War game, and I'm REALLY enjoying it. (Now I know why they call Heavenly Sword "Goddess of War". Also a brilliant game.)

Taking a break right now... currently in Athens, having just watched some priestess plummet to her death.

I'm hoping to complete both GoW I and 2 before March. Does anyone know about how long GoW I takes?
