This is a funny and weird movie, not a scary and serious one. You know that, right? People are crossing their eyes and falling into trances where they see bugs and lions roaring on chub chub James Earl Jones's body. Stuff like that doesn't make you laugh?

Heretic is meant to be serious though. It is unintentionally funny...but it wasn't supposed to be. Complete disaster of a film.

I realize that it's a different type of movie and yes some of that stuff is comical, but to have a film like this follow a masterpiece IMO anyway is just, I don't know, wrong. Linda Blair said the script she signed on to film ended up being nothing that was actually filmed, that the script had changed that much for the worse and it shows. Now, I never said I hated this film. I just said I didn't care for it very much. I still watch it. Its one of those films that it's so bad its good type deals.

So I'm torn now...When I ordered the set, I thought that I would watch part 2 "under the influence" in the spirit of "its so bad it's good"...Then someone with some more intimate knowledge of the film's history wrote in this thread and made me feel that I should give this film a more sober look...Now we are back to trashing it....

So while we are killing time awaiting our box sets... A serious question....

Watching Exorcist II:The Heretic...Under the influence of the poison of your choice or stone cold sober?

I always drink a beer or two when watching films anyway. Heretic should be trashed - it's clearly a stinker of a film. Film is full of stupidity - even the scene where Burton attempts to put out a fire is hysterical. The dancing Linda Blair scene is also hilarious. Those are just two examples.

Just pre-ordered the anthology. Is $28.99 shipped a good price? I read some earlier posts it was going for $25 at amazon a while back.

I am curious of Exorcist II will have the old WB Logo or just the new updated one. I would hope a few early reviews pop up soon. esp for the sets.

I ordered II + III only myself.

I watched Exorcist II recently due to the discussions on this thread.

Not seen it in years, since I bought the trilogy boxset on DVD. It's a bad movie, but very watchable. It's got some really nice shots, such as Regan up on the roof top with NYC in the background, the Africa scenes and the entrance scene with Lamont at the psychiatric institute with the glass doors is genius

The funniest thing is how seriously Richard Burton takes his role when the whole thing is hilariously bad and unintentionally funny.

I like this review here

As I read the comments here, I realize that my only viewing of part II had to have been from broadcast television in the early eighties. I know I saw it, I know that It was not what I was expecting as the follow up to one of the greatest movie experiences of my life and I know that I hated it at the time.

I am hoping for a revelation this time around..hoping that, shown in my modest but well calibrated theater on a worthy format that I may find some redeeming qualities in the artists intent...
"the Heretic" is a pretty good movie but part 3 is my favorite

The Heretic is not very good really but watchable. 3 on the other hand is rather good and my favorite after the original.

I wouldn't trust Linda Blair for filmmaking advice. Have you seen any of her other movies?
