Guess I'll have to skip this one. Checked Amazon a few times per day the last few days, but all I see are secundary sellers. I live in the Netherlands and the 4k version is nowhere to be found (at least sites that deliver to the Netherlands). Shame

Hi, you can order from 3rd party sellers from Amazon for about 35$, some even ship to the Netherlands. Additionally, you could order from https://www.bluraysforeveryone.com/Default.asp, they have Incredibles 4k in stock and they deliver to the Netherlands as well.

Yup. I was planning on making complete 4K + 3D Steelbooks for every Disney release but they cancelled A Wrinkle in Time 3D and will probably never release The Incredibles 3D, and the Steelbook is just "meh" looking to me and there isn't a good Coco Steelbook and the expense of BluFans releases is adding up so I'm just stopping up at this point.

If it were the same art as the UHD slipcover I'd reconsider but the standard packaging is best from this point on.

I know exactly what you're saying here. I haven't had the chance to watch the UHD from beginning to end, but I sampled a good portion of it and I was impressed by the mix once I turned up the volume. The scene where Mr. Incredible is shaking the cat out of the tree, the tree and cat are clearly above my head. Sure, it's a quiet remix, but all that's required is that you turn up the volujme a bit more than usual. Is that a little annoying? Sure, but it's fine once the volume is turned up.

Surround immersion is terrific. It is NOT front heavy. Plenty of surround-only discrete effects (including dialog) and while Atmos height effects are not plentiful like The Matrix remix - they are effective. When Mr. Incredible lands on the roof of the travel pod he *really* lands on the roof. Despite knowing what would happen the effect startled me. I also heard dialog and effects once buried in the previous mix much more clearly. Some sections of the score also buried are now easy to hear.

I am using top end Infinity speakers connected to a Denon AVR-X6300H in 7.1.4

Now there is one caveat - the bass. While there is deep and powerful effects (the jet vs. missiles sequence for example) it is lower overall than the previous mix, which frankly now seems overcooked in spots. It's a mixed bag bass wise.

In any case, the "wahh Disney f-ed up the mix" brigade here is much ado about nothing. I've spent quite a bit on my system over the years and this is one of my all-time favorite films so I'm familiar with the soundtrack top to bottom - thumbs up.

PS: the picture is great. Some nice HDR effects and improvement in color and texture, not to mention compression. The previous Blu was awesome and this UHD is better in every way.

Please don't crucify me but... why not adjust the channel volume on your Atmos speakers louder a teensy bit? I believe teensy is a small scientific unit of measurement...
I know different strokes for different folks but it seems largely that most movies Atmos mixes are laid back so I don't see the harm in adjusting for the majority in this case.

The complaint is low bass and weak dynamics. I'm still waiting on a graph from the usual sources at AVS Forum to make a determination on the LFE content. (Imagine, using data to reach an informed conclusion . . . how radical is that?)

There are reports from Data-Bass of serious clipping on the original DVD soundtrack in the L-C-R-LFE channels. I don't know if the lossless track on the BD fixed those issues or perpetuated them. It's possible the Atmos mix resolves those, but because we've lived with this mix for 14 years we're very sensitive to change. We need some help from someone like KMFDMvsEnya on this one.

that user name makes me chuckle.

I agree a better explanation on what the hell is going on would be helpful, supposedly a comment in the Thor: Ragnarok thread stated that somehow Disney was encoding the discs in some weird way that were causing receivers to default and decode them wrong, one had to manually check and set the receivers to output the audio correctly.

It's not an Atmos problem. This post here is why I keep hoping members will keep in mind that the Dolby TrueHD 7.1 on prior titles, such as Black Panther, is simply not right. Clearly weak surround!

Whatever Disney is doing, and whatever their rationale, we should all figure out a way to escalate our concerns.

You can downplay the negative change done here, but it is still a negative change, nonetheless. It’s not just the bass that is reduced, either, there are instances that don’t reach the same peak dynamics, like the couple I have already mentioned in this thread. Raising the volume did NOT bring those dynamics back. Yes, it sounds “better” than many other anemic disneyified soundtracks, like Age of Ultron, but it still doesn’t sound the best it could. THAT’S the underlying issue.
I think there is a decent disconnect between your interpretation of what was posted and what was actually posted.

He called it "fairly impressive", not "great". Maybe there's not much of a distinction to some, but it sounds like more glowing praise to me using your word. I also didn't see where he disregarded anything. What I took from his post was that he thought it had issues, but still has positives, and isn't as bad as some make it sound.

Of course, some may put more value on the areas it's deficient rather than the areas he found improvements - but, some believe going to the legacy audio track is a superior experience to using the Atmos track. It sounds to me like there may be some trade-off, either way.

Nice, well I knew there had to be a reason. Yeah those spines align quite nicely together. and yeah, the Coco steelbook was a letdown. Thor: Ragnarok was quite meh too.

I didn't even realize how many Disney titles we had on 4K UHD already until seeing your pile there.

It's not weak surround though - surround effects in the previous mix remain in the surrounds in the Atmos mix, along with plenty of dynamic range.

Are you referring explicitly to this new The Incredibles 4K release?

I haven't heard it, but I can assure you that Black Panther 7.1 was neutered all around. Cranking the volume so that the dialogue was at normal volume did nothing for the highs and lows which had been dynamically squashed. Ragnarok was the same.

this seems to be overall scheme from DHV to alter the theatrical mixes to home video levels for Dolby, DTS and streaming - right? (I've only watched 'Thor' and 'Black Panther' in the latter).

Maybe so, it was around 2:00am when I read it and replied. Still, his passive-aggressive comment about people who are very unhappy with what Disney is doing to their mixes gave off the impression that there is very little wrong. Does the Atmos/7.1 true hd core improve the panning? I would agree it does, but the deficiencies of the lack of dynamic impact and inconsistency of the bass response is still an issue that needs to be addressed and resolved. Shouldn’t we be able to have both?

My point is no matter which side of the fence you are on, “Not that big of a problem,” or “Disney, fix your shit this is ridiculous,” there still is a problem.

Yes. And despite claims it is not dynamically squashed.

I was addressing the folks who out-and-out declared this mix a disaster saying there was no dynamics and front-heavy. Perhaps you missed all the "Atmouse" posts? As for the LFE - just not as much as the previous mix, and that could be a number of factors.
