I always figured there would never be a complete series set released at all. As far as I can tell, most of Netflix's disc releases are merely a way to get new customers to subscribe and stream the remaining seasons.

How soon people forget that there is never "news" or an official press release about a release date for Stanger Things on disc. It just shows up in the Target weekly flyer one day out of the blue. Piss poor marketing.

The best marketing is marketing that doesn't cost you any money yet the product sells like hotcakes.

Seems like they have been killing it on the marketing front since the last release, as they couldn't keep the 4Ks even stocked.

I wonder if the stock issue (especially for the 4k set) was just that they made a limited pressing for Season 2 given that they made a glut of Season 1 sets and had to deeply, deeply "slash and burn" discount them to move stock. I remember picking up Season 1 Blu-ray and 4k Blu-ray sets for a song.

Nobody in the "real" world even knew about the release
Target isn't Wal*Mart, there isn't one in every town. Hell, the closest one to me is over an hours drive, one way.
Same for Best Buy and Big Lots.
FYE is four and a half hours one way!

Exactly this. This wasn’t Zen marketing at play. It was a bloody nose lesson Netflix and Target learned from pressing far, far too many copies of the first season for where the physics media market stands today.

Anyone know if Target will be going back to their usual October/November Stranger Things theme this year? I wonder if we'll finally get Season 3 this time.

I was lucky to get the regular Blu/Ray dvd combos for 1 and 2. I kinda wish I could get the 4k sets. Maybe, if they get season 3, I'll be able to at least get that one.

Seriously, you only need the 4k sets from Season 2 on. The Blu-ray set of Season 1 will be fine since Netflix dropped the ball on the 4k discs... they are in the Rec. 709 color space with no HDR with lossy audio.

Even the Blu-ray, due to heavy compression on Netflix streaming, looked overall better than their 4k stream of Season 1, besides the bonus of lossless audio that sounds more full than the audio tracks on the web version.

Season 2 in 4k had HDR, wide color gamut, plus lossless audio. It was a noticeable improvement over the standard Blu-ray and light years ahead of the Season 2 4k stream.

What? The Season 1 UHD was still way better than the blu-ray or streaming.
The image is so crisp and detailed, way closer to max 4k detail than most UHDs. It's hugely worth it. (much of the show has kinda dingy colors that won't go past REC709 colors anyway, although a little HDR wouldn't have hurt it but what can you do. the lossy audio is a shame, but you can copy over the lossless audio track from the included blu-ray and the 4k is sooooo detailed it's worth it even if you can't do the lossless audio playback)

This is very good news indeed. I am hoping these seasons get a reprint when the site goes live, as I stupidly ignored both sets assuming there would be a 4k box with the entire series eventually.

Then the world ended for a bit, and now scalpers control the market on these, especially season 2. What really stings is seeing these getting blown out at deep discounts, and now seeing them for stupid money online.

I really wish I would have bought them when I had the opportunity.

Season 4 is coming to Netflix in two parts, May 27th and July 1. Can we get our danged season 3 disc announcement now, please?

It's always a gamble buying seasons on physical media. I'm pretty confident we'll get a 4K set once the series has wrapped up but I'm not confident about getting a Season 3 or 4 individually anymore.

We never got an announcement anyway, it just leaked in a Target ad a few days before Sunday and on Tuesday it was released.
