As soon as I saw your name as the last poster of the thread, I immediately thought the same thing. Jack Burton was a hero of mine growing up. And the movie is just so damn quote-able!

...
Punisher with Thomas Jane
Cloverfield, but thru the eyes of the government and soldiers, not citizens with cameras.
A Firefly/Serenity film
Stargate (Devlin to finally complete his idea for a trilogy before the spinoff TV show)
Also, another Stargate Sg-1/Atlantis/Universe film
Dragonball (either a reboot or a sequel that gives it a better story and director)

As many have already said, Dredd really deserves a sequel, but I think the lack of box office revenue the first one had will put off most investors.

Strangely, even after his massive success in The Avengers, it still seems just as unlikely that we'll ever see a sequel for The Incredible Hulk as ever. You can't promise us Tim Blake Nelson as the Leader and tear it from us, Marvel!

I guess that's why they call the thread "Sequels You Want-- But they won't happen"

I'd also enjoy a John Carter sequel to be honest, though.

A pre-CGI era sequel to Alien by Ridley Scott. I've grown to love Aliens on it's own terms, but it never quite felt to inhabit the same world as Alien, at least in tone. As a kid, my hope was that they set it on a futuristic Earth, a bit like fusing Blade Runner and Alien.

I honestly think there could be a Lost in Translation sequel, catching up with the characters years later ala Before Sunset. I wouldn't mind that.

I would love to see a sequel to The Professional with Natalie Portman's character as an adult.

I also want The Girl Who Played With Fire damnit!

Oh yeah, and there was supposed to be a conclusion to the Lone Wolf & Cub (Shogun Assassin) movies, with a days long battle at the end where the main protagonists die of exhaustion.
It would have been great finale. I read the whole manga series (the only other manga series I have read is Akira) which is great in all aspects.

There was supposed to be a sequel to The Sword of Doom also.
[Show spoiler]That battle at the end of the first movie is pretty epic

The film itself could be happening, just without Craig, which is a real shame.

Mind you, that article doesn't really give any definitive answers and it's purely speculation, so they may re-write it and focus on his character more.

It is very hard to believe you. Would Stephen King degenerate his awesome original story to a vampire sequel? It would be sad.

Still, sounds interesting.

They're psychic vampires. As in - if I'm understanding it correctly - they feed off the minds and mind abilities of others. Which would make Danny a prime target. Sounds silly but a lot of The Shining would sound silly in the wrong context so I'm keeping an open mind.

Either way, not mind-reading blood suckers.

EDIT - the synopsis of Doctor Sleep:

Quote:
With Doctor Sleep, Stephen King returns to the characters and territory of one of his previous novels, The Shining. The novel features the now middle-aged Dan Torrance (the boy protagonist of The Shining) and the twelve-year-old girl, Abra Stone, that he must save from The True Knot. The True Knot are a group of almost immortal travelers who cross the country feeding off of children with the gift of "the shining." Dan drifted for decades in an attempt to escape his father's legacy, but eventually settled in a New Hampshire town and works in a nursing home, where his remnant mental abilities provide comfort to the dying. With the aid of a cat that can foresee the future, Dan becomes "Doctor Sleep." After meeting Abra Stone, an epic war between good and evil ensues
Alright, that bit in bold does sound very silly - but I'll be picking it up and hoping for the best.

DOUBLE EDIT - turns out even the cat bit isn't as far-fetched as it sounds:

Quote:
The story was partly inspired by Oscar, a therapy cat who is able to predict the deaths of terminally ill patients; says King, "I thought to myself: ‘I want to write a story about that.’ And then I made the connection with Danny Torrance as an adult, working in a hospice. I thought: ‘That’s it. I’m gonna write this book.' The cat had to be there. It always takes two things for me to get going. It’s like the cat was the transmission and Danny was the motor."

You're welcome - I didn't know anything other than "psychic vampires" before so I was pleased to look it up and see what was going on with it.

As for it being released as a film - possibly but I would expect anyone who tackled it to tone down the Shining connections. Surely no-one would like to compete in Kubrick's shadow. But who knows? Warners (or whoever makes it) might insist on it being The Shining 2. Either way, no matter how good the book turns out to be, I can't see a film version being assessed on its own merits.

would have loved to see 2061 and 3001 as movies but that probably won't happen anytime soon. rumor has it they had a sequel planned for Star Trek Nemesis so I would have liked to see that too(plus the 101 other Star Trek projects they had planned like the IMAX movie). the sequel to Superman Returns too. Returns may not have been the greatest but it was a refresher for the audience - a sequel might have been really good.
