AllTheAnime shipped my UE today, asked them about replacement discs for the missing subs on the special features but they haven't replied.

I finished watching the tv series and 'End of Evangelion' before Christmas holidays and really enjoyed it. I had seen a few episodes of this show back in the 90's, but never the whole thing. I had experienced this complete story first through the Rebuild films, which I enjoyed as well.

They both have their strong points, but I think I prefer the series over the Rebuild films. However, one of my reasons for enjoying the series more was that I watched it with the Japanese cast. I'm not anti-dub, but the English dubs for this property never really worked for me. In particular, Shinji is much more likeable for me in Japanese.

Watching the series did give me an appreciation for how the narrative was reshaped to fit the format and pacing of four individual films. I sold off my 3 Rebuild film blurays, trying to get a bit of extra money from Part 1's OOP status, with the idea that I'll probably buy them again when they get re-released as a four film bundle, maybe even in 4K. And I look forward to watching them all again then, too.

I don't normally go nuts for world-building, but I did appreciate how the tv series fleshed out the characters, their relationships, the world's history, and the various political factions. And a lot of the political struggles and implications of Christian mythology were a lot more clear in the tv series. I get that the Rebuild films wanted to keep the focus on the more central characters their conflicts on a more personal level, but maybe some of the details were glossed over a little too much.

The standard blu ray set was a real Schnäppchen; I'm glad I picked it up and finally watched this seminal series and that it lived up to its adoration.

Just got my UE. Immediately moved the discs over to Viva cases to avoid those god awful holders. Netflix discs are spotless, Classic ones have the exact same circular scratches as other people have mentioned though....wtf did they do to these discs.

inb4 conspiracy theories that Khara had them damaged on purpose to reduce their lifespan.

Things aren't looking good...playback issues on Disc 11 during End of Eva,
Timestamp 1:59:12. Video and audio completely freeze for about 25 seconds.

That's very worrisome. Is this the only affected disc?

In terms of playback issues so far, yes. I've only screened two other discs on x10 speed, so that may change. Being that Disc 11 is one of the lesser scratched discs though..I'm not too optimistic about the longevity of the others.

I get the collectors edition of Neon Genesis, I checked disc 11 (The End of Eva), went to the time you mention here 1:59:12, let it run through for about 30 seconds and I had no such playback or freezing issues

Disc 5 for all editions is missing subs for a live-action extra.

Disc 5 contains a bonus feature "THE END OF EVANGELION – Deleted Live Action Scene" that does not have English language subtitles. If you would like a replacement disc with subtitles, please fill out the following information. Please note that the corrected disc can be identified by an "R1" that appears at the end of the selection number printed on the bottom of the disc.

They've assured me that all discs were produced together with the same level of care, but how is it that only my classic discs are affected and none of the others, Extremely disappointing for such an expensive set.

I just checked my disc, no problems at that timecode.

I watched it. I'm actually very interested in production and the film making process. I don't understand why so many people on this board were so quick to dismiss this oversight as not a problem to the point of getting annoyed when it was brought up in the first place. It's almost like different people have different interests...

Also you can get the replacement and sell the faulty disc. Plenty of people out there that just wanna replace their Manga EoE discs.

FFS. MediaOCD put so much love into this set. Makes me sad that whoever ATA/Gkids hired to assemble these and the CE sets seems to give no f***s.

A lot of care was put on the ADV dub restoration too. Its a shame those are the affected discs for many.

I wish the new dub cast for the rebuild films were used for this release for consistency.

Am I missing something? There is more disc errors then missing subs on the EoE extra?
