I watched both Days of Heaven and Bigger than Life last night.
I already owned the previous DVD of Days of Heaven and the transfer is really really good. I wish there were more Brooke Adams films on Blu. Still hoping MGM releases Invasion of the Body Snatchers on Blu when they get their legal woes worked out. Bigger Than Life was really good, very melodramatic but I like it a lot. It is nice owning any Cinemascope feature and the color is thru DeLuxe and seems strong yet subdued at times in the film. If you are craving a classic Cinemascope film on BLU this is a good one. Haven't watched Yojimbo or Sanjuro yet, maybe tonite. |

Watched the Dillinger is Dead dvd last night, and the transfer is great. Could hold out hope for a future blu-ray, though I am fine with my dvd for now (it's better than any internet version

This is my biggest not on blu painful DVD purchase. I have it on hold at local Barnes, I want to see it badly but all I can think of is that it isn't in HD.

It sucks it's not on blu, but I got over it, because this was one of my 3 most wanted movies that Criterion had coming out this year. I would be glad to double dip if/when the time comes for a blu-ray release since I got this dvd for only $20, and it's one of my fav releases by them in a while.

I am right there with you I'd buy it again on Blu in a heartbeat. Seeing the cover art in person for Dillinger isn't as bad as I thought it could have been. I guess I was so used to the Janus release poster. But I love the spine. |

Blu-ray speculation for older titles continued. You've been forewarned.
![]() For Spine #'s 101-200, I'd say the following are more likely to get upgraded: #101 - Cries and Whispers - Bergman; often considered quintessential #110 - M. Hulot's Holiday - Publicly stated they have considered a re-release of new restoration #111 - Mon Oncle - Publicly stated they have considered a re-release of new restoration #116 - The Hidden Fortress - Kurosawa; pop-culture tie to Star Wars #123 - Grey Gardens (inclusive of #361 The Beales of Grey Gardens) - Already had a DVD re-release #138 - Rashomon - Publicly stated they have considered a re-release of new restoration #139 - Wild Strawberries - Bergman; often considered quintessential #147 - In the Mood for Love - Seems to be a popular request they may want to capitalize on #157 - The Royal Tenenbaums - Have publicly stated they have more Anderson Blu on the way eventually #166 - Down by Law - Title in amazon.com poll #173 - The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp - Restoration currently underway. Probably not until late 2011. #177 - The Lost Honor of Katharina Blum - UK release already available And the following have little or no chance (not counting already OOP titles): #102 - The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie - Studio Canal licensed #105 - Spartacus - Universal release coming in May #108 - The Rock - Disney release already available #113 - Big Deal on Madonna Street - Studio Canal licensed #117 - Diary of a Chamber Maid - Studio Canal licensed #121 - Billy Liar - Studio Canal licensed #143 - That Obscure Object of Desire - Studio Canal licensed #150 - Bob le flambeur - Studio Canal licensed #151 - Traffic - Universal release coming in April #163 - Hopscotch - Studio Canal licensed #175 - Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - Universal release already available There's a few others I almost put on the more likely list, but hesitated because I didn't have any specific compelling reason. Those were: #124-128 Carl Theodor Dreyer Box Set (too many titles unless some done individually), #141 Children of Paradise, #145 Loves of a Blonde, #164 Solaris, #174 Band of Outsiders, and #196 Hiroshima mon amour. Does anyone have another title that they speculate is likely in the #101-200 range? Any reason to think some of my speculations are misplaced? |

Band Of Outsiders and Hiroshima Mon Amour I'd think are quite viable blus. Oh and put me down for Cries And Whispers and In The Mood For Love. Asap. |

I'd also love the Antoine Doinel films, but like the Dreyer box it may simply be too many films. That they have The 400 Blows out on Blu and not any of the others suggests to me they might question the sales possibilities of the other films. I'm glad I have the DVD set though because not having Antoine and Colette on the Blu for The 400 Blows seems like a poor choice, IMO. |

Anyone know where? I recall seeing it at one point, but just now wasted a lot of time, in vain, trying to find it.

I'm a newcomer to Criterion blu's. I already owned "The Seven Samurai", "Ikiru", and "Citizen Kane" on dvd. My first purchase on blu was "The Third Man" (upgrade from dvd), followed by "In The Realm of The Senses", "Wages of Fear", "The Man Who Fell to Earth", and lastly, "The Seventh Seal". I think my next purchase will be "Repulsion", although "Kagemusha" is in the running. So far I absolutely love all of the above mentioned movies. I know this is a question that everyone would probably answer differently, but seeing the above mentioned movies, what would you consider a must-have list of movies that are already available?

Hey, in honor of the upcoming Yojimbo I decided to sell my Criterion DVD versions of Yojimbo and Seven Samurai on ebay. I think there was a rumor SS would be coming from Criterion at some point soon. Just making room on my shelf. ![]() |
