I agree hopefully they'll put SEC teams on each side so we can have more LSU v. Alabama

Or for our 4 team playoff UGA, Bama, LSU and some other team

UGA is never good enough for a 4-team playoff.

They've just had injury issues in the Richt era, especially on the line and RB's. I mean at one point I believe they had Moreno, Stafford, and AJ Green on the field at the same time

And they still lost.

Like 2008, when they lost 3 games (including to Georgia Tech). And 2007 when they lost 2 games (to unranked South Carolina and Tennessee).

I will say, they do get to skip the hard teams in the SEC most years (like last year and this year). But UGA has always been overrated. Top 5 in the recruiting rankings, top 5 in preseason polls, top 15 in the end.

The BCS sucks as a system, but they got it right most years.

A lot of that has to do with Richt. He's a great recruiter, but his talent development needs some work.

Throughout the season (2008), 19 players have endured season-ending injuries. The combined number of games missed by projected starters tallied 50, including 11 for preseason All-SEC defensive tackle candidate Jeff Owens.

The only year they'll get it right is going to be this year when Mora Jr. Leads a 1 loss UCLA team to a national title game which will result in a 1 point loss to Alabama, but starting a new dynasty in California football.

What constitutes a "legitimate" playoff? 4 teams? 8 teams? 16 teams? All championships are mythical in a way.

MLB had only two teams make the postseason (World Series only) prior to 1969. Are you saying those pre-1969 championships don't count? Just because D1 football is slower to evolve doesn't mean championships won up until now are any less meaningful than a championship won in a 4 or 16 team format.

Yes, but MLB had a specific, non-opinion based way of determining the 2 teams that made the championship.

You cannot have a specific, non-opinion way of determining a championship for football though. It's possible in MLB where you have near identical schedules and everyone plays everyone. With college football you can't do that with a 12 game schedule and something like 120 D1 teams. Rankings based on opinions will always play a role. A 4 team system would be an improvement, but not much of one IMO. And that's all we're getting for at least a decade or more it appears.

I personally would like 8, but 16 wouldn't bother me... Again was that Giants team really hands down better than the Patriots? I didn't think so, and would they have won over multiple games? So really you could have a year where (god forbid its randy edsall) maryland is #15 runs the table and wins a title, would they be better than USC/BAMA/LSU exc. I doubt it, but they were for that little stretch.

I do have to laugh when the NCAA big shots and school officials claim that a longer playoff system like 8 or 16 teams isn't workable for Division 1. Funny how D2, D3 NAIA and I-AA have all had 16 team playoffs for the national championships for some cases a couple decades.

You are right about what you say. If for example the 2007 Patriots and Giants played each other 10 times my guess is the Pats would have won at least 7 or 8 times. Longer format playoffs very often just produce inferior champions.

I'm not saying you can. But if TLK thinks it's a "mythical champion" doesn't mean MLB only using 2 teams is equivalent.

FCS (I-AA) now has a 20 team playoff, and next year they're moving to 24 teams. In the 20 team system the top 12 teams get byes and the next 8 teams play, and in the 24 team system the top 8 teams will get byes and the other 16 play. It's possible that an FCS team could play 16 games in a season if they didn't have a first round bye and made the title game.

i remember when i went to jacksonville state we went undefeated in the regular season and through the playoffs.

we didn't fare so well in the championship game, but there was a playoff and we were in every stage of it. because i was at every single game.

now, i don't remember how many teams were in the playoffs (it was in 1990), but the system worked.

i've never understood why the division 1 people (fbs, whatever you wanna call it) have always said that a playoff system is too many games and that it probably wouldn't work.
i can venture a guess and say it's about money but that's a load of crap, imo.

i say go to a 16 team playoff and let the ones NOT in the playoffs go to bowl games (not ALL of them, but you get the idea).
