Kino does indeed have a very large catalog. Lots of film noir which I'm a fan of. They often, however, are rather cheap, so they squeeze things onto BD25s rather than let the encode breathe with a BD50, or don't have English subtitles. They've gotten better lately though. Extras (which I don't really care about but some do) are also usually quite skimpy.

Kino's been putting out great releases for a long while now. They've been hitting a lot of 4Ks out of the park to me. You can expect hundreds of titles to be on sale. I'd guess the price range will be from $8-12 for blus, maybe $15 for some 4ks etc.

On top of the massive catalog they have, by far, the best sales. Too bad for me it’s coming at the tail end of Salegeddon

The Kino edition of Charley Varrick appears to be using a new scan then the powerhouse release:

The Kino has finer detail, no blown-out whites (if a tad on the blue side) and is on a 50GB disc.

And there are Powerhouse 25GB disc releases.

If you want the best pq available then you have to do your homework rather then assume anything or (worse) take the word of resellers.

Which is understandable because of their huge catalog. If not for Kino Lorber, many of those movies would never see a physical media release. Of course they will be barebones, it's just a sensible business decision for those titles.



Kino Lorber is also great because they collaborate with some other indie boutiques, like Milestone Films.

Kino's regular big sales typically include 800+ BDs/UHDs from their catalog. Nobody knows what titles will be on sale though, and they rotate them from sale to sale. Sometimes I've picked up new releases only a month or less old. Free shipping kicks in at $50 and your biggest problem will be trying not to buy too much.

I’m all for this. Some of my favorite movies don’t have dvd releases. I’ve seen some of Kino’s movies through TCM, I’m trying to remember what and which I liked. They have a lot more silents than other labels.

Are Kino sales prices equal? Meaning do they have lower prices during one sale ex. summer than at a fall or black friday sale? If i remember correctly, I thought I noticed the prices at Shout last year seemed better during late summer/early fall than they were this past sale in March. Thanks for any help in advance.

They should delay it till June so some of these new releases can be part of the sale Serpico 4K, Night of the Hunter 4K, 12 Angry Men 4K, The Longest Yard 4K

They usually have a June sale anyway. If the March sale is pushed back to early April, then the June sale will probably be a bit later into June than usual.

There will be another sale in June/July anyway...every 3 months for KL.
