...The four Redo's (that's what I'm calling them now) were released on Blu-ray individually and only the first three were released that way. All four of them are an Amazon Prime exclusive (for now, we hope?). So if you have Amazon Prime, you can watch all four on there. Buying the blu-rays can get expensive, as the first two have been out of print for years and can go for well over $100 on eBay. With the fourth one out, there's hopes that all 4 will be re-released and bundled together (hopefully in 4k) but nothing official has been announced. The fourth one came out in March of last year and STILL hasn't gotten a Blu-ray/4k release so my guess is Amazon has a time exclusive deal for the home video release...

Just as a warning if you are a discerning dub watcher the Rebuild (or Redo as you are calling them) movies on Amazon have a new dub that is different from the original dub that was on the 3 Blu-rays released by Funimation in North America (the fourth as mentioned has not been released by anybody). To say that it is inferior to the previous dub would be kind as it has more in common with a squishy smelly sticky blob that you just stepped in and is a pain to scrape off. However, that is my opinion and some people aren't as picky as I am about what they step into.

Yeah, I avoided going into that for fear of being too confusing. I'll be honest, I didn't like the Amazon dubs the first time I watched it but I gave them another shot and, while I think I still prefer the Funimation dub overall, I think they're pretty solid. I don't blame you for disliking them though. Plus having Amanda Winn-Lee back for Rei means the world to me. Alison Keith-Shipp's voice is clearly straining.

This is the reason I went ahead and spent the money on the three Funimation Redo releases, even at a somewhat premium price now. I heard the Amazon dub was not that great. Although I am strictly a subber when I watch anime, I do want to have a half-decent dub available when I show anime to my friends. I hope I can stand to watch 3.0 + 1.0 with the new dub when I have to...

I would disagree about the Amazon dubs being solid. Much of the content in the dialogue between the first and second dubs is the same but how its being presented is where the problems lie. The translation for the amazon dubs is awkward, clunky and sometimes wrong. Whereas the Funi dubs are more natural sounding and don't have misused words. The delivery/acting is bad in the first movie, but does get better in the later ones. But like I said everyone has different tolerances when it comes to translations and I am pretty picky. Some fans also get so immersed in a show/movie that they don't really notice things and that goes for both dub and sub watchers. If you are curious about my specific criticisms I went into a little more detail in the "What anime have you just finished?" thread:

The funny thing about the fourth movie is that while there is awkwardness in the dub dialogue, there is so much technobabble going on that it probably wont be noticed because of that babble. The thing that did stand out to me was the attempt to translate Japanese honorifics. I think Shinji became "Mr. Shinji" a few times, which hadn't been done in the previous amazon dubs that I recall and goes to show some of the inconsistency of Dan Kanemitsu's translations. So, YMMV...

Just received mine and had to submit a claim right away. All the inside contents are perfect, the large outer clamshell though has an about 2” tear in it. Shipping box looked great, shrink wrap wasn’t damaged, seems like it was factory sealed with the damage.

FedEx is just messing with me now, it's bounced between Today and Saturday a few times over the past few days and now it's just "Pending". Hopefully it doesn't show up tomorrow when I'm in town. In the plus side though I do have Monday off if I do miss it.

Really sorry to hear this, after we all had to wait so long for these. Hopefully it won't take too long for you to get a replacement, and without a big hassle.

I opened my set up and inspected all the discs and hubs, and all the extra goodies inside, and everything is good - the discs were all pristine, no marks or scratches. A few of the hubs had some depressed edges tucked under the discs from whomever inserted the discs at the factory, so after I unmounted them to check the disc surfaces, I made sure I re-inserted each disc so all of the hub's rubber edge was popped up above the disc. When mounted properly like this, the discs are held firmly and won't fall out. You just need to take care to lower each disc onto the hub at a slight angle and then slowly roll it down in a circular motion (like a spinning coin settles onto a tabletop, but without rotating the disc) onto the hub until the rubber edge is completely above the discs all the way around.

Got my ultimate edition set today. It’s a hefty package. Im pretty happy with with it. Although there are a few weird design decisions. I wish the disc holders had different art than just reusing stuff from the giant art cards. And I’m not sure how they decided which art to pair up on the larger art pieces. I’m not sure why they didn’t just do 1 and 2, 3 and 4, etc.

I have to agree with the art cards. Think it would have been better to have the NERV logo on the back of all of them and give each one its own card.

Of ALL my delivery services, Fed-EX can be the absolute worst in letting me know they dropped by.
I also have a plastic tub on my porch (older re-cycling tub) with a sign above stating;
"Please! Place parcels in here".
- Mail Lady, no problem (+ rings bell)
- UPS, no problem (+ rings bell)
- Amazon, no problem (+ rings bell)
- even Best Buy, no problem (+ rings bell)

I had perfect timing for my Fedex delivery yesterday - we had gotten less than an inch of fluffy snow on the sidewalks and driveway, and I have 12 steps and a landing going up to the front porch, so I bundled up and went out with a broom and swept off the stairs all the way down to the driveway. I had just walked back up the steps to my front door to go back inside, but turned around because I heard the Fedex truck coming down the street, and I just waved him in... at least he had a freshly cleared set of steps to come up and hand the Eva package directly to me.

Same crap happened to me. I'm so mad because we were watching a movie right by the door (Wreck-it Ralph, for anyone curious) and totally would have heard someone knock or ring the bell. Oh well, they're coming back tomorrow.

Got my Ultimate Edition today as well. Luckily my apartment complex has a locker system so I didn't have to sign in person for it.
