The Island, that one I detest The Rock is fine with me but if I never see it again it wouldn't hurt me. Armageddon I want to see again, I so happen to like the cast not counting Affleck. Some fun moments in that movie!

Thirst

I'm going to be careful now, I'm literally too blown away to be giving a calm review.
[Show spoiler]GO RENT IT OR BUY IT NOW!!!!!

I watched this with a chickfriend of mine, we both had several "wow" moments, the movie is beautifully shot, fantastic camera work, it's subtle and I've probably never seen it before like that. The flow of the movie was just perfect to me, my friend also thought so. Every single actor was perfectly cast and everyone did a great job. The score was wonderful as well, I kept noticing how well it was integrated to the story being told, even sometimes making a scene very intense for me and my friend. It's a unique vampire love story, a catholic priest turns to a vampire after a medical experiment. He then feels a change and is succumbing to lust and temptation, he can no longer suppress his desires which he had succesfully done all his life before, catholic guilt and all that. Obviously there's more to the story, I want you to experience the rest. This is the same director who brought us Oldboy, although Thirst is more accessible than Oldboy, it's still rather graphic, somewhat gory (never gratuitous) and bloody obviously and some beautifully made love/lust scenes. Let The Right One In has probably been bumped down as the second greatest vampire movie and been replaced by Thirst for me, though I have to give it some more time before I decide. I have nothing negative to say about this movie but I won't give it a perfect 10 before I give it a second viewing.
Also, this is a korean movie, so you subtitle haters is going to miss out!

The Blu-ray looked excellent, audio fantastic as well. All around a great disc, although I think I noticed slight DNR at times, but I'm not sure as I didn't give a s, too engulfed in the story.

YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS ONE! Hope I haven't hyped you guys too much though.
9.5/10

I thought OldBoy was quite accessible as far as Korean movies go

Gladiator - Remastered

Movie - 4.5/5

Do I really have to summarize it? I prefer the theatrical edition to the extended, I just like the pacing better.

PQ - 4.5/5

The PQ on this release is leaps and bounds above the previous disc. Gone are the halos and other artifacts of the previous release and back are the arrows and fireballs which were seemingly deleted(DRS on first release) the first go around. This disc is brighter and more heavily saturated than the previous release, to sometimes jarring consequences. That being said, the majority of the scenes take on a more golden hue which I liked. There are still a handful of scenes that will never look great, most notably the opening battle sequence in Germania.

AQ - 5/5

The audio is identical to the previous release, which is to say excellent.

The Host is much more accessible.
[Show spoiler] Mostly, because it doesn't deal with incest.

Maybe it might be because I haven't got children, but I thought OldBoy was going to be really artsy, and really it only had one artsy moment in it

Just reminded me that I haven't watched Tidal Wave yet.

Are there any other Korean movies that you've seen which you would recommend(outside of the vengeance trilogy and the two I mentioned or the awful D-War)?

I forgot to add that this movie does not treat the audience as idiots, some stuff you have to understand yourself, which I LOVE! No vampire stereotypes as well, real humans with their own emotional baggage and how their background affects their actions and behaviour.

Nope, I usually try to stay away from Subtitled movies because I usually focus on whats going on at the bottom of the screen intstead of the actors

It's a learned skill to be sure. Now a days, I can read the subtitles with cursory glances towards the bottom of the image.

You need more practice it seems. You should rent or import the Infernal Affairs trilogy, some of the fastest subtitles IIRC.

In all honesty, you make it sound worse than it already is, he was forced to do it, and it's not like the voilence or sex in the movie warrants it's G rating in the US really

[Show spoiler]Adults can handle insest and it's not like Dae-Su knew what he was doing

Many of my female friends of mine cannot handle this movie because of it.
[Show spoiler]Incest is a touchy subject for many and often taboo, it doesn't matter wether he knew or not, the general audience would rather avoid a movie as this.

It's not that I can't read them, it's just you never really feel the actors preformance, like they can be shouting and be angry, or be quiet and upset, and in my head I'll be reading it in my North-western accent in my head like I'm just reading a book.

I'll still check out subtitled movies, I really liked Pan's Labyrinth and OldBoy, and I'll probably check out Thirst (It'll probably be on the TV sometime this year, it doesn't take long for foreign films to get on terrestrial TV).

What an amazing ability you have, you can judge movies before you see them!

If they don't like it then fair enough, it is a gritty dark film though and the it's not real, it's still think it's still very accessible, not because of the story, but just within it's style, I think that's what I said in my review.

So everytime you see a subtitled movie, it's like going to a David Thewlis one-man show?

Sure the style is accessible, but overall the movie is not. That's my point.

I guess so.

What I'm saying is, I don't feel as if I'm getting the Impact the movie wants me to get because of me.
