I guess you right, I was talking to a friend about the movie and I said the twist was really good in it, and she asked me to tell. I didn't really want to spoil movies but I did anyway and she was a bit like ewww. I still think a mature adult can handle the movie, whether or not what happens in it, of course they don't like the subject matter they don't need to watch it ever again, and it is all fake after all.

What happened to the Spielberg Remake of this with Will Smith, was it axed?

And the announcer before I saw it said, this movie contains Strong Violence, Sex, Language and a guy eating a live octopus, definitely adults only. I was like, seriously, like all that gets a mention and the one thing that tips it over the edge as Definitely Adults only is a guy eating a live octopus.

Next greatest rental: “Ip Man.”

These fight scenes are awesome!

More importantly, it’s a wonderful, powerful story with strong characters that I found myself rooting for. The drama is touching throughout, and by the end I found it rather heartwarming.

Though I’m no expert in martial arts at all, I did find its main basis interesting; the Japanese (and the out-of-towners at the beginning) used so much aggressive violent moves, and the Ip Man countered them effectively with calmer, simpler moves (Wing Chun). The contrast interested me, and I believe it’s an effective allegory to the story and the character’s struggle overall.

4.5/5 (entertainment: 4.5/5, story: 4.5/5, film: 4.5/5)

alot better than i thought only reason i net flix'd it was most people here loved it. main character actor should have been anyone else kid couldnt act and was terrible.

Although original the film really did not resonate with me. A few very funny parts where the dialogue is just of the wall funny but in the end it was just rather bland. If I saw this in the 90s maybe I would have felt differently. The conspiracy theorists in the film are hilarious that is for sure. I didn't hate the film but once was enough for me.....for now at least

Do I really have to summarize it? I prefer the theatrical edition to the extended, I just like the pacing better.

PQ - 4.5/5

The PQ on this release is leaps and bounds above the previous disc. Gone are the halos and other artifacts of the previous release and back are the arrows and fireballs which were seemingly deleted(DRS on first release) the first go around. This disc is brighter and more heavily saturated than the previous release, to sometimes jarring consequences. That being said, the majority of the scenes take on a more golden hue which I liked. There are still a handful of scenes that will never look great, most notably the opening battle sequence in Germania.

AQ - 5/5

The audio is identical to the previous release, which is to say excellent.

I don't think "Ip Man" compares well with "Red Cliff," because RC has a bigger scope, different focus of a story, and a better focus on large scale battles, tactics, and historical drama (I suppose the two films do well on the drama actually). As far as fights go, RC does good with the battles, but I don't remember individual fight scenes being anywhere near the same level as "Ip Man." To me, the two are totally different.

I didn't ever finish "Fearless," so I can't comment on that. I should probably give it another try, especially the director's cut.

Compared to other films, I would grade "Ip Man's" fights on the same level as some of my other favorites ("The Protector," "Chocolate," "Unleashed," "The Matrix," "The Transporter," etc). Everything else about the film (settings and production design) reminded me a bit of "Fist of Legend."

Come to think of it though, "Ip Man" will probably become my favorite among Chinese martial arts films.

Some of Chris Evans' stuff was funny. Chase scene set to Don't Stop Believing...for some reason that's funny


The Bad:

Everything else.


I barely made it through the movie.
