My wife and I went to see it last night. We were both underwhelmed. I found it to be quite contrived and mostly cookie-cutter. I was able to forsee every plot point well before it actually happened. The one positive thing that I can offer in my criticism of this film though is, even though I saw it coming from a mile away,
[Show spoiler]that T-Rex Vs. Indominus Rex battle was amazing! Too bad the Mosasaurus had to ruin the end of it. T-Rex should have charged and knocked Indominus Rex into the water for the Mosasaurus to finish off.

Me = 3/5 (2.5/5 without that final battle -> spoiler above)
Wife = 2.5/5

For clarity, she loved Jurassic Park. I found the original to be quite unimpressive.

And, on the topic of the "Now I can clearly see Chris Pratt as Indiana Jones" discussion??? If that performance is what you all want for Indiana Jones, then it's going to be an awfully terrible reboot for the character. Pratt had way more Indiana Jones in him with Star Lord than he did with Owen The Raptor Whisperer. His character in this was so watered down compared to what Indiana Jones needs to be that if he were playing Indiana Jones in this film, the Indiana Jones character would be drowning because of all of that water being used to water him down.

Give him a Fedora & Whip and you got Indiana Jones & The Island of Dinosaurs right there.

Good thing InGen didn't give the I. Rex raptor speed, I guess.

Maybe he's so majestic he moves at super human speeds. Or like a boulder he has a head start.

Genetically modified Chris Pratt, perhaps? Maybe in the next movie he'll have sizzling eye beams.

Oh, I have a reply for that but I'm shy and not going to discuss it.

If you knew what came into my mind you'd think it came out of an E.L. James novel.

Boring?

It's your typical book adaptation. If you don't like Jurassic Park, then you must hate Harry Potter, The Golden Compass and pretty much every film based on a book out there.

(Although it's not a straight by-the-numbers adaptation like Harry Potter).

Agreed.

Chris Pratt is perfect for the role and the only one capable of taking over from Harrison Ford.

Ratings:
Jurassic World - 7.5/10
The Lost World - 5.5/10
Jurassic Park - 5/10
Jurassic Park III - 3.5/10

Edit: I am seeing a lot of hate around the internet for Jurassic World. I'm confused about this as it had the biggest opening of all time. Some people must have liked it for it to make so much money. Will be interesting to see how it holds up this weekend.
Pearl Harbor had a huge opening, too, and today is considered an absolute joke of a movie. Jurassic World is not going to share that fate, as it is a lot of fun and people enjoy the film despite some small issues. But films piling up a lot of cash in a very fast manner doesn't mean that people liked anything. It means a lot of people went to see something. There are other films I could mention, but you get the gist, I'm sure.

Avatar is the highest-grossing movie in history, but for some reason, everyone on the Internet hates it. Backlash is inevitable and apparently the people passionate enough to actually go on the Internet and post about a movie are mostly the ones who despised it.

Pearl Harbor was tipped by many to be the next Titanic -- young actors playing out a love triangle against the backdrop of a tragic historical event -- and it tanked. Opened on 3000 screens over Memorial Day weekend to a fairly weak $60 million. Horrible reviews, audience indifference... I mean, in what way is that a huge opening? Pearl Harbor bombed.

I need to meet the wardrobe department and personally thank each person for putting him in such tight pants.

$60 million opening was weak 14 years ago? $200 million grosser was weak 14 years ago? It was the 7th highest grossing film of the year.

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/yearly/...yr=2001&p=.htm

This is exactly the phenomenon I'm talking about. Go to Box Office Mojo, search up Pearl Harbor, hit the adjuster for 2015. In today's dollars, the gross is adjusted to $284 million in domestic grosses alone. In no way did that movie "bomb". It sucked, most people I know make fun of it, but a whole lot of people went to see it opening weekend. Just because a movie is seen by a lot of people and earns a lot of money doesn't mean the movie was liked. It's statistics 101.
