Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

That's another one on my list.

Cloak and Dagger is another one.

I'm thinking that, sometime in July, I should just show up at Barnes & Noble and grab Fritz Lang's Complete Restored Metropolis, M, and Ministry of Fear, then order Cloak and Dagger when I get home.

I saw The Complete Restored Metropolis at the theater when it was released a few years ago, and it really knocked me for a loop.

I'm thinking about also ordering The Kid With the Bike... Would you say that films worth it?

100% absolutely. My favorite Dardenne Bros. film.

If you're region free, I would recommend getting the MoC release of Metropolis. The commentary is excellent and so is the meaty booklet.

Gonna make one more purchase with this Best Buy sale and I'm torn between:

Videodrome

&

Naked Lunch

To those who've seen both which would you recommend? Taking into account both the film itself and the bonus features.

I can't find any date for when the sale ends. Has anyone had confirmation? Payday is Friday and I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

I have heard Saturday night, as that is when the prices usually change, but I am unsure if that is 100% reliable.

If you order on Friday you should be fine.

Also, this is completely off topic but I know there are a lot of Wendy And Lucy fans on here, here is a 1/5 star review for it I found on e-bay, I laughed quite a bit:

We did not like this movie. To us, it definitely was a "B" rated one. Slow, depressing, very little plot. We bought the movie "Wendy and Lucy" because our two cats are named Wendy and Lucy. Having such sweet and entertaining cats, we thought the movie would be the same. It definitely wasn't.

Videodrome is cool, psychological David Cronenberg--probably "THE Cronenberg film" this side of Scanners and The Brood--while Naked Lunch is drugged-out and very gay William Burroughs.
(And I don't mean "gay" in the South Park sense, I mean Burroughs didn't shut up about it in his writing. Which sort of brings down the level of conversation, every time you'd rather hear Cronenberg ruminate upon talking cockroaches than on drugs and repressed sexual identity in 50's Canada.)

Okay, I'm going to be ordering two Criterion DVD's:

-Vampyr
-Carnival of Souls

I'm sick of waiting for them to come out on blu-ray, they'll sell for the same price I'm buying them for if/when blu-rays ever do come and there probably isn't a very good chance of Vampyr coming out any time soon. MoC said it's not happening because there's no good HD masters available. Whether that's entirely true or not, who knows, but it basically confirms that it probably won't happen any time soon.

I'm still really trying to decide if I want to buy The Kid With a Bike on blu-ray... I received one persons solid recommendation but could anyone confirm that this would indeed be a wise purchase? The long interview in the special features looks nice...

I think it's a great film. Not really one you'd re-watch, though, if you're one of those people who takes that aspect into consideration when buying. I don't, but I know some people make a point of that.

Also: Love Carnival of Souls. It's actually one of the discs from the collection I've watched the most.

I'm with Coop in that I enjoyed it, but have no idea if I would ever watch it again.

Yes, you do want to buy THE KID WITH A BIKE. It's a wonderful, touching, powerfully acted and beautiful-to-look-at film. It would make a great second feature with THE 400 BLOWS (and is at least as re-watchable as that), or with the Dardenne brothers' own LA PROMESSE (which I don't like as much). The excellent set of interviews make the film that much more rewarding (you learn how much of the script was changed during production and rehearsals).

Go for it!

Further proof hollow escapism is all film can be to some viewers.

I absolutely adore Wendy and Lucy. It could easily have been miserablist porn, but instead Kelly Reichardt notes how much money Wendy has in her pockets at all times. The world as seen through her films is always tangible.

Side note: I know you like Brad Bevret, but didn't he pan her follow up, Meeks Cutoff. That's an incredible film which he wrote off in the same manner as Mr. & Mrs. Cat..

Yes yes yes. The Dardennes are fantastic and this is their best work, after Le fils.

I watched Leon Morin, Priest today and Riva's performance really makes me want Hiroshima, Mon Amour on blu. Here's to hoping something comes of the new restoration shown at Cannes.

Oof. Wendy and Lucy is absolutely one of my favorite films of the last decade.
