Friday:
Scott Pilgrim vs. The World - 9/10

Saturday:
The Expendables - 4/10 (it probably didn't help that I browsed through the Expendables review thread beforehand. I kept remembering all of the 5/5 and 10/10 scores given out and my reaction throughout the film was basically 'lol wut').

I get ya---I've been notoriously staunchy with my perfect PQ and AQ ratings but I've eased up a bit.

ROTJ is easily the worst but it's still an easy 5/5 movie for me. The other two movies are better and should be rated more like 6/5 but that's just not possible

Episode IV isn't really a 5/5 movie either, more like 4.5/5. I get that it's a set-up movie but before it was meant to stand on its own and it just takes so long to get going. Still one of the best movies of all-time.

I don't think it takes too long. I really appreciate it's pacing. The movie takes the time it needs.

Michael Jackson's This Is It...5/10

It was interesting for about 20 minutes and then it began to drag on for another hour and a half. Would have been far better as a short film.

Borrowed “Vertigo” from the library.

Despite some slow parts, this movie is brilliant. It’s very well-crafted with beautiful cinematography, very interesting set-pieces, and solid cameramanship. The story is engrossing and mystifying, and kept me guessing up to the middle (and from then on, it still kept me engaged seeing where the characters go from there).

There is a lot in the imagery and the story that really connected and kept me interested: I love how the scenes in the first half kept contrasting with each other, alternating between the city-view shots and these hazy floral settings to reinforce a seemingly-supernatural feel. I also believe that the bell-tower scene perfectly symbolizes the story, as the main character struggles to ascend to reach the truth, but falls short.

4.5/5 (entertainment: 4/5, story: 4.5/5, film: 5/5)

I will own this! I hope a Blu-Ray is on the horizon…

Ebert's funny sometimes. He's a Proyas fanboy, so when Knowing came out (a very meh film), he raved about it lol. I do like him though
