If that were the reason they wouldn't bother with an Atmos mix to begin with. It really defeats the purpose.
You're absolutely right that it doesn't make any sense when dealing with a niche of a niche ultra-enthusiast format like 4K Blu - and what's crazy is that Disney even put a backup DD+ 7.1 mix on there that they could employ as the "kiddie" audio - but that's corporate inertia for you: it takes a long time to turn the ship around so Disney are just blithely carrying on with their neutered mixing regardless. Not every disc sounds as muted and dull as the next one, but they're still not cutting loose.

Has anyone ever been in touch with Disney about this?

It's a smart question. Why now recently?

My guess: Because Disney wants to reach a wider and younger audience. The rest is easy to deduct from it.

Nothing's wrong with the audio mixes; Disney have some of the best audio mixers in Hollywood. We just need to adapt to the new world of Disney. ...We will with time.

Meanwhile buy Disney shares, it's a solid investment for the future, for our children.

P.S. I accidently deleted a more explicit answer, and I've only read Geoff's posts after. I agree with what he said.

Disney doesn't need to reach a wider and younger audience. They already have one of the widest and youngest audiences out there. I call bullocks on that. There is an answer, but we're not sniffing out the right ones.

We are in a minuscule minority; it won't affect major business decisions.
And we have already suggested what would be best; having Atmos with full impact for the hardcore Disney fans, and another one for the families and children.
It probably requires more money investment from Disney to do that, and they might have different ideas than us when it comes to their films and their picture and audio.

The Disney CEOs work for the best interests of their investors, for their larger groups of audiences, families and children, ...@ both theaters and homes.

And The Incredibles, that's a great family flick. ...Mom, Dad and the kids being entertained all together.

For us, we have Deadpool and Deadpool 2 and Suicide Squad?
We sure have Blade Runner 2049 and Interstellar and Tron: Legacy and SPR.
That's pretty incredible.

We do what we do best; Live - Die - Repeat, War of the Worlds, ...they do what they calculate to be best financial rewards from more targeted wider younger familial audiences.

That's the best sense I can make of recent Disney's audio decisions.

If Tron Legacy ever gets released on UHD the audio better be stellar.

Yeah I figured they wouldn't exactly be forthcoming when it came to this. I was just curious about if they actually gave any reasons for their current audo practices or if their reply was just some diffuse corporal talk.

Expansion is good for investments. I'm sure they have analysts who are making sure of that.

1. They killed 3D in North America from the BR format...no money for them here.
2. They didn't put advertisement money for Solo; seems they underestimate their prediction.
3.The audio mixes from their last flicks; they sure went in a new direction.

@ the end they follow their own business decisions. Us there is nothing we can do; we are just a minuscule niche in that gigantic movie machine...truly.

The audio isn't that great on the current Blu-ray IMO, it runs out of headroom real quick and clips a fair bit.

We can move the needle with Disney, though it means enough of this niche group have to stop buying UHD's with restrained audio. Unfortunately doubt that would happen.

Clipping the sound is one way of crushing the dynamic range. Most pop and rock is dynamically constricted in this way, using peak level limiting. It makes the sound ‘loud’ which is how people perceive audio clipping but it’s just distortion. Many artists don’t even know it’s happening and think giving their final mix to be mastered is some packaging thing, but it’s just clipping the waveforms. It pretty ghastly some albums have 15% of their audio lost in clipping.

Was this Disney’s previous method of having a more even volume level (crush dynamics)?
And the new approach is a complete remix to limit dynamics?
A complete remix is the better of the approaches, but IMO I just want the full dynamics of the theatre presentation, not some homogenised up-front audio so something’s audible in the background above the screaming kids.

Its the bass that stands out in tron legacy. The games and aerial battle scenes are insane when cranked loud

Tron: Legacy is one of my favorite audio soundtracks on Blu, clipping or not. It gets high steam from my ears and bones. ...Like the Vesuve erupting volcano @ Pompeii.

And I’all add this, PG or under, family friendly audio mix. PG13 and up from Disney should get a nice hearty Dynamic Atmos mix that’s not done in the pre-rendered channels.

I;m going to guess this is the same poster that was banned and posts deleted (at least once) for doing the same thing a few weeks ago with an obsession over Menus on a dozen + discs

If he explained why he want to know such random non movie related stuff (trailers, menu, premenu poputp, after credits, etc) maybe someone might help, but otherwise I suspect folks aren't going to waste their time since normally this ends up being soem troll with a random letter user name who ends up trying to put up links to buy Chinese Dresses and Real Estate off the shore of Sri Lanka.

EDIT: Looks he it got banned again and some posts deleted after hitting 6-8 threads in quick succession
What if he's only a cool kid joining the forum?
He has only 12 posts and never said anything bad.
Everyone loves The Incredibles; youngsters, elders and the rest between.

Thank you - you nailed it. There was a smudge on disc. So embarrassed.

Replayed "problem scene" and the problem (fixed by wiping clean) was me for not considering the most basic of possibilities. Back surgery has caused me to rely on others to do things like put discs in the UHD player and, well, that does not excuse me from using common sense...

Sorry to consume internet bandwidth over this.

Thanks again!

Huh??? Really?

Alright, if more people are following suit and are going to be thoroughly satisfied, I guess it’s time for me to keep my mouth shut. I’ll just be the quiet minority regarding the audio track.
