Run Audyssey and adjust from there. I would change crossover to 80hz across the board right off the bat.

Well, you don't have any non HD video sources...so there is no video set up.

It doesn't process DSD, if you have any. (But does DSD over network)

Has IIz, but not DSX...if you want to run height instead of rear surround.

Thanks guys I will take a look at the suggested. No, I don't have any DSD devices.

Is there anything else that might be on by default or recommend that I might have turned on and I might want to turn it off or the other way around?

Last question, the display on the front of the amp is there any way to change the display? I have the out put on the left and then on the right is the name of the current device. Is there anyway it can just display the name of the device? I can see anything I need to on screen in terms of output etc.

Cheers.

It should be in Input Setup or something similar where you can change the name of the input and assign them if you want.

You must be an LCD owner, used to having to turn stuff off...and try to figure out how to make it not look like crap.

We plasma owners are used to..."plug it in, use it...calibrate at the 100 hour mark".

Seriously. Whipping out a theatre with a plasma vs LCD, takes like half the time.

With plasma, set every source(in the AVR) as through and normal (format).

With LCD, you have to figure out what needs lip sync, what needs hue/color correction, etc...

Do you mean the signal type it's displaying on the front or the name of the input? If you change the name of the input in the menu, it should display on the front. You can't do anything about the signal display.

I've never heard of a way make that sort of change to what's on an AVR display.

Does anyone here have a turntable connected to the AVR X3000? Since the receiver does not have a phono jack, I recently purchased a pre amp online. When I received the pre amp, I hooked the turntable up to it and then hooked the pre amp up to an available composite connection on the receiver (I decided to use the CABLE/SAT connection). I powered everything up and set up the correct settings within the receiver onscreen setup. However, the sound was terrible.

For shits and giggles, I decided to connect the turntable directly up to the receiver on the same connection (CABLE/SAT) and lo and behold, it worked without the pre amp! Can anyone explain to me why this is working this way? It shouldn't, should it? Suggestions?

it sounds(pun intended) to me that your tt is equipped with a built in phono pre-amp, some come that way. what type of music do you enjoy? I love all genres from classical to new age, jazz (early Miles,Coltrane,Rollins and fusion.enjoy

I probably should have tried it out before I spent the money on the pre amp, but I just figured it certainly wouldn't work without one. Oh, well. My tastes in music run the gamut. I like new age and electronic (I have a huge collection of Tangerine Dream). I like The Beatles, Ben Folds, The Police, Tears for Fears, 30's and 40's music, 70's and 80's rock, Singer/Songwriter stuff. I enjoy symphonic music as well.

Just picked up the AVR-S700W...One quick question...I did the whole set up, with the mic and then by ear as well..I set the fronts to small and 80Hz...Everything sounds great and clear, except I'm only picking up the really low bass notes out of my sub..I like to "hear" the bass from the sub, not just feel it, if that makes any sense...Seems like it's only picking up bass below 40Hz..is there a way to fix that??

Turn the crossover knob on the subwoofer all the way up.

My wife gave me a Craig turntable for christmas and, at the time, my Yamaha receiver (have a new receiver to be delivered soon) did not have a phono input.

I kept the turntable in its box (from the 80's - freaking awesome) for over a month, until I became intoxicated and said "screw it" and plugged into AV4's left and right rca. Alas, the turntable had a built-in preamp.

So, I guess we did pretty much the same thing. I'm very pleased with it.

Enjoy!

All of a sudden, after a few years of listening, my front left height speaker started outputting a static sound. It is not the speaker because when I swap the front height wire with another speaker the static follows to which ever speaker the front height wire is connected to. I was praying it was the wire I was using for the front height but that didn't eliminate the noise. I am now fairly sure it's the front height terminal on my Denon 891. Does anyone have any suggestions for me or does it sound like it's probably the terminal? The good news is that I can turn the front heights off, bad news is that I have to turn the front heights/back surrounds off. Any easy fixes out there?

The best thing to do is call Denon. The techs are great to work with. They really help out

Took your advice but I have to say they were not very helpful. Got the impression they just wanted me to buy a new AV. It was almost like a sales call more than anything. Kept telling about the newer features on the new AVRs. They gave me a reset procedure to do on my receiver but other than that they didn't have much advice. Oh well, at least I can turn off the heights and run it as a 5.1 for the time. Looks like I will have to start looking at a new AVR if I want heights back.
