This isn't meant to disparage 3D generally -- I don't tend to have much use for it, but I'm happy those who do have something to look forward to -- it's more a matter of, "Oh, yet another release of Star Wars that doesn't include the OUT." And it just keeps happening. They know they're going to do it, right? I just wish they'd get on with it. It feels like they're trolling us at this point. |

Here's an update from Bill Hunt at The Digital Bits on 8/1/16:
Also, we have a quick update on the rumors we’ve been hearing regarding Star Wars: The Force Awakens finally being released in Blu-ray 3D format. The latest from our retail and industry sources is that Disney and Lucasfilm are considering a 5-disc Blu-ray 3D box set, which would include The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith, and The Force Awakens – all in Blu-ray 3D format – along with a fifth disc of exclusive bonus content. The release date would presumably be in time for the holidays this year, and likely timed to promote the theatrical release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story on 12/16. As soon as we catch any official word on this we’ll let you know. |

Good, good. But like I said, it makes no sense to have a box set like this and not have the OT. I mean, I-III and VII? The gap is annoying.
Speaking of tie-ins, we need Blu-rays of the Ewok Adventures and the pre-2008 shows. |

I'll probably never buy a boxed set for star wars since it seems like it may never end now. we'll maybe a 1-9 boxset, but who is to say they won't make episode 10. I was psyched for awakens 3d, but don't care all that much now. watched the blu a bunch.

I'm probably down for this set, but yes, the gap is annoying and the fact that it's somewhat 'incomplete' is annoying too. I don't want to have to keep A) Re-buying these films B) Buying boxsets of these films for the rest of my life... |

I will never spend another cent on the prequels. I have them already on DVD and on blu-ray. I don't care if they post convert them into a hologram that allows me to slay Jar Jar Binks with my bare hands, never again!
I was holding off on buying TFA until the 3D combo pack was released, but I can certainly settle for it on standard blu-ray. TFA was just a spectacle sprinkled with nostalgia for me; the story was a near carbon copy of the original film. Just my opinion...not trying to rile the faithful. |

I want these movies in 3D (especially The Phantom Menace) but I don't need them immediately, so I'll wait for a price drop unless, for some reason, this set turns out to be limited or the new exclusive content is really significant. We'll see.

But, count me in on the 3D prequels, if they are being released. Even Episode I, which was as mild as your TV's auto-3D. |

I'd be down for a 3D set with all of the prequels and The Force Awakens. Since the work is completely done for them it makes sense for Lucasfilm to release the conversions. The work was supposedly 90-95% done for the original trilogy (but as the special edition versions).
I think we will see a giant set with all nine films once the new trilogy is finished. That's likely when we will see 4K restorations of the original theatrical versions of the first 3 films. I don't think Disney/Lucasfilm wants to spend more money to finish the conversions on the original trilogy. Millions of dollars was spent on the work that was done but it does seem unlikely they will finish. I would enjoy seeing the original films in 3D but it doesn't seem to be a priority for the studio. A set with all the rest in 3D sounds like a must-buy to me though. |
