He was obviously arrogant in the first movie, I felt it was right in line. Even so it's been 20 years. Everyone is different 20 years later.

Also, with going into the IRex cage instead of rewinding the film. In real life, in my experience, people rarely react to anything logically. They just react.

Not trying to be an apologist. Just the original movie had just as many WTF moments for me as this one.

My biggest WTF from this movie was the entire plot about turning raptors into soldiers. Training them to do tricks for a park attraction as if they were dolphins or something would have made more sense. But I guess they needed a human villain for some reason.
[Show spoiler]Even though Claire's PA got a way more intense death scene than his rather lame talk to the raptor comeuppance and she seemed nice.

Nothing against Bryce's performance at all, but the way Claire talked and moved I kept expecting it to be revealed she was actually a Westworld robot.

When I was 11 I already knew how to put in a car battery and change a headlight

How come everyone overlooked the fact that
[Show spoiler]Indominus had the ability to communicate with the raptors if the Indominus was raised in isolation? How could she have vocal skills if she's had no one to talk to?

[Show spoiler]If she's intelligent and aware enough to take out a tracker she knew the location of inside of her, then genetics of communication between other raptors isn't far-fetched

UNIX expert? All she does is look at a directory for the right file name and double click on things that look right until she finds the right one! That takes computer expertise on the level of figuring out how to turn bold text on in microsoft word! I think that was very believable since any idiot kid that could read could have done it.

On the whole jw vs Star Wars breaking box office records...I went to see jw twice and that's more than I usually go to the theater in a years time...not planning on seeing Star Wars...so JW in appealing to a broader audience( I think anyway) will still be tough to beat.

while I think that some people are seriously overestimating the appeal of Star Wars, there are also a LOT of people that will go see it 10 times in the first week.

You already have your Jedi Master costume dry cleaned and ready to go, eh? Ugh if my father weren't such a big SW fan I'd probably be able to get away with not seeing this in theatres. Odd reaction from me, 3-4 years ago, I was a huge SW fan.

no way. I'm avoiding this movie, and the legions of unwashed basement dwellers who'll pack out the theaters, for at least the first weekend.

My favorite thing about Star Wars fans is their optimism, it's endearing. The problem with them is that they are so into the land of Star Wars that they seem to miss the history of the series' box office performances. Has it made a TON of money? Yes, over six films it has made a very large chunk of cash. But has an individual film ever really done astronomical things at the box office level? Not really. There have been some records broken, there is a giant fanbase that will pay to see the film 10 times in the theatre. But never, even adjusted for inflation has one come close to performing the way Jurassic World has. It's had three more chances than the Jurassic franchise and still hasn't done it. I'm not sure why people seem to think it's just going to come along and blow everybody's mind and smash all of these records and claim the crown of highest grossing film of all-time, in all the world, adjusted for inflation, times two. It will come out, it will be successful, it'll likely break a couple of records (it's got a great shot at being the first December opening to cross the $100 million mark) and it will go away, being VERY VERY lucky to make it into the Top 3.
This is all only opinion, of course, I have no way of predicting the film's performance and I will eat my words happily should I be proven wrong, but I'm pretty confident I won't have to.

Are you kidding about the original Star Wars? Its adjusted domestic gross alone comes to $1.4 BILLION dollars. It really was the biggest movie of its day, no ifs or buts. All the subsequent SW movies have been chasing that success and while none have quite emulated it, it's worth mentioning that even the much maligned prequels made a combined $2.5 billion (unadjusted) at the global box office - so imagine how much they'd have made if people actually liked the movies!

In some ways Star Wars is in the exact same position as JW which is why people (including me) are so confident that it's gonna destroy the box office: after the runaway success of the first film it's coming off of a lengthy hiatus on the back of mediocre prior instalments, and it's essentially ignoring those other flicks and continuing/replicating the original story which audiences fell in love with in the first place.

JW's success is down to a lot of things but the nostalgia pull is HUGE, as there's 22 years' worth of fans that have waited for a true sequel to Jurassic Park, and as for younger audiences, kids love dinosaurs anyway. The makers of Ep VII have laid on the nostalgia nice and thick even before the success of JW, and they will feel ever more vindicated at this point. They've got 38 years' worth of nostalgic fans to service, and kids love Star Wars anyway (helped by the success of the Clone Wars and Rebels cartoons). Factor in a December release which means that the film could run and run well into the new year (as Avatar did) and Ep VII really is a serious contender.

I'm not a "Star Wars fan," or at least I was of Eps. I-VI, but I have no interest whatsoever in the upcoming fan fiction movies and won't be seeing them unless the reviews are staggeringly good. It's not my endearing optimism that's confident SW will beat JW's weekend, it's the fact that Disney is making the smart move of marketing Ep. 7 not as the first SW movie in 10 years, but as the sequel to a movie from 1983 that is still mostly loved, with characters and actors we haven't seen in 32 years. So add nostalgia + rabid fanbase + Disney's marketing power + star power of Ford = tickets selling out weeks in advance, people packing theaters, huge numbers, and finally a higher worldwide haul than JW.

The only thing hurting Ted is the R-rating. If JW drops down to $60m range this weekend, Ted has a shot, but it would have to overperform.

You make a couple good points (don't know where you got the idea that the original Star Wars film didn't make ridiculous amounts of money though), but at the same time I think there are good reasons to believe The Force Awakens actually could be that successful. So far, the first movie of each Star Wars trilogy has been more successful than its sequels, which makes sense, I mean in '77 it was something people hadn't seen before and in '99 it had been 16 years since the last one (plus people hadn't been disappointed just yet ). TFA will have that same "freshness" and audiences missing the franchise going for it. Then there's the fact that this is a continuation of the original trilogy, with the main cast returning, the general aesthetic of the OT, etc. For many people, this is the Star Wars sequel they've always wanted and didn't get with the prequels.

But time will tell, and some predictions/guesses are just ridiculous. $300 million opening weekend? I wouldn't hold my breath. In the end it doesn't matter all that much though, I'm not one of those people who turns the box office into a pissing contest and sits there like "yeah, my favorite franchise is beating yours!", that kind of thing is childish. Like Jurassic Park fans who are expressing how "worried" and "annoyed" they are that Star Wars might outgross Jurassic World. Really, what does it matter? JW will still be a huge success, and they'll still be able to enjoy it just as much as before. Records or no records, Star Wars will make a lot of money and that's good enough for me, because it ensures Disney will go ahead with the sequels.

I not a huge JW fan but did enjoy it . Anyways, imo, the chances of Ted 2 scoring more than $55 million are very small. The first was new and original....a live, talking teedy bear . This is more of the same but the trailers are unfunny imo. Going against JW will take some air out of Ted 2..I predict $57 million for JW and $45 million for Ted 2 .
