Try contacting the member that posted those. When I try the links the mediafire links says "set to private".

Hey man, the credits don't match, I think they're for a different movie.

Sorry, couldn't resist. Noticed the ambulance immediately, love it.

(the text on the back is still just placeholder, so you don't need to point out that the credits block is for a different movie).

I've gotten a little feedback on it so far; I'd just like to hear more.
I really like the concept but I can't help but think the particular idea calls for a more realistic look. Just my two cents.

Also the back looks a bit messy, and the placement of stuff on the front is a little off balance. Basically it's a nice idea that just needs a bit of tweaking.

Maybe you could make the stuff on the back look more like it was a part of the car. Better integration. Just some ideas.

I must say I am very impressed with the custom cover arts, some of them are way better than the regular cover art that the studios use!

Sorry but it sucks! I kinda see what you were going for but it just does not work. Its crap and looks like a cut and paste job!

Actually it looks wonderful, love the Ambulance idea. Can't wait to see your finished version.

I always love checking out your Criterion stuff, especially all the ones you've posted over at EuphoricFX. I dig this one and think its quite unique! The ONLY thing I would say about it (which you may be planning anyway) is possibly putting a screenshot or 2 in there to break up the text heavy back (unless of course this is intentional due to it being Criterion, I dunno) otherwise, looks great!

On the subject of comments/criticisms/feedback...

I agree that in the past there have been some things that rusty has said that I feel were a bit unwarranted and degrading... and I think he has addressed that, and we've all moved on...

...But in this case I am siding with him and agreeing with dv8.

Rusty's comments were constructive in that he stated (after his opinion), his reasons fo it. That is what I call constructive.

I think that designers here do need to realize that, especially in a public forum, if you are going to ask for help and advise on a WIP, that you will get negative feedback, it may not always be what you want to hear, but it's the criticisms that make us all stronger. And as long as they are backed up by reasons for the opinion, than they are only ment to help.

However, I do think the one line comment by Ikmg does NOT fit in that category...

@Ikmg - You made your comment, then left and didn't come back to expand on it or defend it. Please, if you don't like someone's design, take the time to give some points as to why.

That's all I ask, I don't think it's unreasonable.

@DVDMike - I hope you continue in this thread, as there are lots of good people here to help. But as I know you are a member of some cover sites too, if you feel you need less harsh feedback, they might be the better choice.

It's up to you.

When you are doing custom covers, why do you add those huge certificate logo on the front? Or on cover at all?

I'm asking because I always hated those to start with, and I hate when a group of people decide at which age we should watch a movie!!

It all really depends on the look the designer is going for, same applies to the bar code on custom covers. Some artist want their cover to look 100% authentic to where if you picked it up you would never know if it was bought in the store or custom made. I see very few artist use the age logos on the front for their custom designs, and its not used at all in the states. If you find a cover with that on the front, you can always ask the original artist if he/she is willing to make you a version without it. Unless it happens to just be a scan of the original cover.

I like brochure paper, takes the ink well while still being flexible enough to wrap around the spine.

Thanks a lot for this anwser! Yeah, it really does add a genuine look at it. It's maybe because I just hate censorship! Out there, in Canada, we are stock with billingual covers, and I'm not saying that because I'm against french, in fact, I'm French! But two titles written in two different languages just doesn't look good on a cover. The certificates are less a problem when I think about that.

I'm designing my own DVD covers for rare or unofficial stuff, maybe I'll try with some Blu-ray covers and post those here.

I use brochure too, best match to studio covers as to thickness and quality, plus it doesn't stick to the clear covering on the covers and you can print on both sides for customs with inside artwork.

Can I marry you?

Seriously though, the movie isn't rated R. If you need it, I have a No-Ghost logo that's over 3,000x3,000 resolution.

The "original" Criterion number is listed as #75A on my 2-disc LD.

Make sure to mention the before and after F/X for the ballroom and Library Ghost that were Criterion exclusive!

For anyone interested in creating a Metropolis cover, I've created a front/poster inspired by some really old promotional materials of the film.

Have a look. And if anyone would like the Hi Res just pm me.
