Good. Serial killers having abusive fathers has become a cliche anyway.

‘Friday the 13th’ Hires Effects Team, and Jason Mask May Be Based On ‘Part 3’.

Quote:
F13Franchise are reporting today that Platinum Dunes has just hired Legacy Effects to create the film’s masks, props, and special effects.

Sources indicate that the company has been tasked with making a Jason Voorhees mask that resembles the original hockey mask that Shelly brought to Crystal Lake in Friday the 13th: Part 3. That mask, worn by Richard Brooker, was heavily yellowed with a handful of scratches and bright red chevron markings.

Schnepp sums up my thoughts pretty much exactly.

I'm looking forward to another Friday the 13th movie, and it's great we're seeing some progress for a change but this incessant over-thinking things in regards to this franchise in particular is just plain stupid! Kids in the woods, Jason and his machete, it's simple!

PS. If you're a Horror fan, or a genre fan in general... Collider Nightmares is really great. They cover all sorts, monster films, small psychological films, foreign films, older films, sci-fi, thriller and even TV shows etc. Basically anything on the darker side of life. The crew are really likeable too. Check it out!

Friday the 13th seriously just got pulled AGAIN? Are you kidding me, Paramount? Goddamn, how hard is it to make another one of these? Teenagers go to Crystal Lake, Jason hunts them down and kills them. Rain or shine. Winter. Summer. Spring. Fall. That’s all it is! I’m dumbfounded that Paramount still can’t seem to get it right…it’s really easy, Jeebus…oh well, at least I have Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash...

Hopefully this is all just so they can make it great. I want to believe that. But it’s hard to be optimistic with how it’s going right now. I’m just hoping that the reaction to Rings made Paramount realize we don’t just want any sequel to our horror films. We want good ones. Also, while we’re at it, drop the prequel angle. None of us want Jason’s origin. Just give us Jason. Plain and simple. Please and thank you. Can we just get a proper Freddy vs Jason sequel at this point? Someone get Robert on the phone. He’s already dawning the make up again...wow, what a mess this has become...

...Okay, now I want a F13 set in the winter. Wouldn't that be kinda neat? A change of scenery that doesn't go too far like Jason Takes Manhattan, adds a bit of danger outside of just Jason, plus it's an opportunity to go a bit more creative with the kills. There's potential there.

Jason's mask in the Friday the 13th remake was absolutely perfect. I love the shape of it. I also loved the burlap sack over Jason's head in that movie as well. As far as Paramount pulling the new Friday the 13th from the release schedule all I have to ask is have they gotten retarded? How difficult could it be to make one of these silly damn flicks?

Yeah and the movie can be titled A Black Christmas on Friday the 13th.

It's not a bad idea.

...blood splatters look great in the snow.

Only problem is, why would any kids go to Camp Crystal Lake in the wintertime?

Isn't there a rights issue coming up if the film isn't made this year?

With this delay, does seem like the project may actually be dead. Too bad, as there actually looked to be movement for the first time, but perhaps Paramount looked at the movement and felt it wasn't ready. Also would be kinda pathetic if Paramount gained F13 and South Park rights for five years in exchange for international rights to Interstellar, but just ended up doing nothing with either franchise.

Apparently Paramount has not just pushed it back but they cancelled it altogether. Director and crew have been informed to move on. Sad news

I've thought this for a long time. We need a Friday the 13th sequel set during a snow storm. It should be easy enough to come up with a reason for some people to get trapped near Crystal Lake during a storm. Maybe a bus gets caught out in the storm and breaks down near the camp and people have to take refuge in the cabins until the storm passes and they can get help. I think that could make for some amazing visuals that we haven't seen before. Jason stalking his victims in a snow storm! Of course that would make filming more challenging, but I think it would be worth it.

I loved the lightsaber duel in the snow in Force Awakens. It provided some striking visuals. I think the same could be achieved with Friday the 13th, though without the lightsabers. As you said, that would be something new for the series to explore.

Have an accident or emergency where people are stuck or trapped near Crystal Lake.

Yeah, as I was saying, with the rights issue it was probably a now or never situation.

Neither of the two theories for why it was cancelled is really makes sense, it wasn't like Rings did that poorly ($13 million opening on a $25 million budget may not be great, but it's hardly a major flop) and as the article points out this is a very different kind of horror, then the studio source suggestion it just wasn't ready seems more logical on the face of it, but then why didn't Paramount do something with the five years they had the rights rather than waiting till the last minute.

I once wrote a FRIDAY THE 13th part 9 script, one that involved bringing back all the original survivors, and it took place in March/April, so still snow possible. I had the new guy and his wife opening the camp, bringing in his workers a tad early to fix up the camp.

But on personal experience, for Boy Scouts back in the day, we would do winter camping by renting out local cabins, ice skate on the lake, etc. It's not as common, but people do camp in the winter.

Paramount sucks. I was so happy when they got the rights back as I really didn't like anything New Line did, but all they did was ONE remake and are just sitting on them, wasting time. Boo.
