Received my copy, from Amazon, on Tuesday. Although I meant to cancel since I have the Zavvi steelbook preordered. Will, most likely, send this back.

Got my High Octane set today. Glad to finally have a copy of the Madness of Max documentary. However, I am pretty disappointed with the quality of the video. I knew it wasn't going to be the best since it's on a DVD, but all the interview footage looks like it was shot on a Nokia cel phone.

i'll just wait for the inevitable 4K release with both versions... not really up for spending $25 to buy a black and white version plus the same disc i already own... or $75 for a bunch of movies i already own plus black and white and a 4K disc i can't play yet (i'll have a 4K player eventually... maybe B&C 4K will be out by then)

I was thinking of picking this up tomorrow from jb - are the ot discs the same old ones we have had in AU for ages? From memory the roadshow version of mm here is pretty poor (missing all the extras/alt soundtrack),

I already have MM2 and one of the copies of fury road so not sure if I should pick this up for 1/3/b&c or not...

If you complain enough about their incompetence regarding this release and inventory problems, they'll likely give you a full-refund as I got one. It's nuts, were they not expecting people to buy this? I've had it pre-ordered since it was announced and it's just shipping now, usually in any other situation on Amazon I would've gotten this day of release. And I even checked retailers, no one had it. And by no one, in my small town, I mean Wal-Mart.

Anyone suspect a "Black and Chrome" Road Warrior will show up before too long?

I see bn.com emails are sending 25% off coupons, so the High Octane version ends up $49.01 before tax.

Apart from Amazon's Canadian site, I've also noticed a dearth of the B&C on the shelves of Canadian stores, even the ones that have the new big box. I always kick myself when the internal discussion comes down to, "Well, I guess I haven't bought the Mad Max films too many times, comparatively speaking."

I haven't cracked yet, but it may be a matter of time. I still don't own Thunderdome, so it might not be a total waste.

Yeah, I've seen it and the new set in every Walmart, HMV and Best Buy I've walked in...

Bought it today. Kind of feeling buyers remorse. Bought it solely for the Road Warrior Doc, the black and Chrome presentation, the HDR of Fury Road and what I thought were Digital Copies of all the films.
Realized when I got home that it's just another UV for Fury Road only.

Haven't opened it yet, thinking of returning or selling it. I've bought all these movies too many damn times.

Ended up in JB yesterday, no extras listed for mm or beyond thunderdome so I presume they are the same discs that are routinely sold for $7 here. Road war and Madness of Max seem interesting, are they very good? Bummer the thunderdome doc wasn't included... Is that disc (eu.region?) same transfer and everything as the existing discs? .. Not sure if worth buying the box though. Maybe if they have another 20% off sale I'll bite. No doubt sometime between now and New Year there will be one.

Whoops, only just checked in with this thread

Yes, it's the exact same discs for Mad Max & Thunderdome, no extras. I enjoyed both of the documentaries tremendously, especially after waiting for so long for proper special features for both films (Shout's MM disc is meh). A Thunderdome doc would have topped everything off, but I'm not crazy about the movie in the first place. At 20% off, the box only set me back $40, which I could live with.

Gotta say, I love the look of the daytime scenes in B/W, in fact it might be my favorite way to watch the movie...

...if it weren't for the nighttime scenes, which look terrible. Those scenes were absolutely not shot to suit B/W, which is understandable, but also glaring since a lot of consideration goes into nighttime lighting in native B/W.

A desaturated regular Blu looks like an overcast day in these scenes, but Black and Chrome's blueish hue makes characters and especially skin look like they've got studio lights pointed directly at them.

Got lucky as my local FYE is closing and they had 40% off everything, taking this down to $47. A sub $50 point feels about right for this...it DOES have a lot of content on there, though the "Madness of Max" looks HORRIBLE on DVD. Portions of it resemble a Youtube video in choppiness.

I agree. The video on The Madness of Max is pretty much garbage. I wonder if they used a single layer DVD and compressed it too much or if the spice video was just garbage to begin with.

I think it's the original source, it was filmed on SD video in 2002 after all. My UK Anthology has a dual-layer DVD iirc, so it's not compressed too much.

I haven't seen the B&C edition so I can't speak for how they look there, but those 'day for night' scenes were shot overexposed by two stops instead of the traditional underexposure.

That overexposed method works incredibly well for the colour version of the film and DP John Seale freely admits that it's doesn't look like normal 'day for night', it's more stylised, so perhaps that's why it doesn't work so well in the B&C?

You're always going to get eco cases with holes for both 1 and 2 disc releases from Warner, Lionsgate, and Fox.
