So today I went way out of my realm of what I listen to and bought a classical CD so that I could go home and listen to the wonderful sound that is presented by the Energys. I know a couple of you like classical, can anyone recommend something to me that I may enjoy? Most of these songs are just 3 minutes long, I am sure the symphonies are much longer then that right?

I just bought a 3 cd copy of 100 of the all time favorite classics at BB today for $9, or if you can PM maybe about some good things to look into whatever. I would appreciate that thanks.

Steve

sounds about right, there isn't too much to watching TV in most cases. Music yes should sound clearer and much more detailed if you listen to jazzy or female vocals or Piano. With Alternative or Hip-hop you won't notice as big of a difference...

Hehe congrats on this new acquisition! Music will sound miles away from what it sounds now after the breakin period you will feel that they graduatelly sound even better after around 50 hours.

Nice purchase and enjoy.

Mid volume on the subs is about right or a bit above it is not a problem either. You desbribe it now as sounding awsome hehe glad my advice worked out for ya. Do you feel it should be louder?

If there's no need for it then leave it as is.

Did you read the thread on settind up you sub by Big Daddy?

Amuse toi bien avec ca!!!

Avec un riser pour le sub tu verras ca va augmenter le volume de ton sub aussi, c'est comme si tu rapetissais ta pièce en hateur.

if you're a radiohead fan at all, there's an album of covers by a classically trained pianist-true love waits by christopher o'riley. it doesn't have strings, but he does an amazing job just using the piano to cover some of radiohead's best stuff...

These aren't for serious classical lovers, and if you aren't much into classical, then I highly recommend this DVD Audio recording by Erich Kunzel & The Cincinnati Pops Orchestra featuring some outstanding works by Tchaikovsky including the 1812 Overture (with real cannon fire), Capriccio Italien, and others. If your DVD player doesn't play DVD Audio there is a DTS track available. It is also available on CD from Amazon or your local record shops, but you won't get the full impact of the music like you would on DVD. Conductor Kunzel has done a lot of recordings of classical music excerpts on CD and DVD. Most are on Telarc like Orchestral Spectaculars, Ein Straussfest, Symphonic Spectaculars, and more.

Ballet is another good way to go. Everyone is just about familiar with the Nutcracker by Tchaikovsky as well as The Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake. All of these are available on Blu-ray. My favorites are from Opus Arte.

And if you dare, and would like to take a chance on opera, this one by Rossini, La Cenerentola (Opus Arte on Blu-ray), is the one I recommend to all those who think they hate opera. It is different take on Cinderella. Don't worry, if you don't know Italian, the story is so familiar anyone can follow along and of course there are English subtitles too. The Opus Arte on BD is the best recorded performance I've ever heard for this opera.

Enjoy!

And speaking of Swan Lake, this post is going to be my Swan song for awhile. I'm taking a sabbatical. I'll be back but I need a break. Take care all.

Edit: Callas, my avatar is up for grabs. I still love Energy but I'll just find another after I come back.

Very well Rwo,

I appreciate your input on that before you stepped out. You're input was a major reason why I chose my Energys, So I will miss seeing you around and will hold steadfast for your return, My Friend! Enjoy your time doing what you need to. My Prayers are with you.

EDIT:: Thanks for the offer, but your avatar is yours alone. And it will be waiting for you when you get back.

That radiohead cover song cd sounds good. I'll have to find a bit torrent for it to see if I like it or not.

I need to swing by my parents house and grab some of my dads symphony cd's. He's always played them on his old late 70's KEF speakers with tube amps and they sound so good.

Thanks Art. I'm a bit of a radiohead fan. Not a hardcore fan, but a fan. I will definatlely check it out.

As far as Opera, that sounds like an awesome idea Rwo. I think I'm gonna get myself some Opera. That will rule! Totally something different!

radiohead is only the best band...ever...period.

nah, they are my favorite band, though. i used to really be into the indie music scene and would have a new favorite band every month or so, but as i age gracefully i always can come back to radiohead.

I know what you mean, my friends and I used to only listen to the SST label so we could find new bands before everyone else. Plus they had a mix of Dinosaur Jr to Punk and everything....... Now I mostly listen to whatever....

in my college years, back really before pitchforkmedia.com was as popular as it is now, it seems like every week i'd buy 2 or 3 cds/lps/7inches based off of pitchfork's recommendation. it also helped that i lived a block away from a record store that had free shows all the time.

after i got married, i found my tastes really narrowing. i can't be assed to keep up with music anymore. i stick mostly to my old stand-bys..radiohead, my morning jacket, sunny day real estate, w/ classic rock/blues mixed in.

i actually flipped on my cable box yesterday to one of those digital channels that just plays music yesterday and had my wife shaking her moneymaker to some Muddy Waters in the kitchen as we were cooking. the c-500s were holding it down.

Arrt, you are now my new best friend.... I cannot believe that I found another human being (outside of my high school buddies) that knows about Sunny Day Real Estate.... Dude, they are still one of my favorites.... In Circles is one of my favorite songs...... and the other one... oh I cannot remember... it was a video of them playing and it was like Ah-ha's 'take me on' video.... ah for the life of me... I still have one of their VHS taps of them in concert... unfortunately I don't have a VHS player....

let me guess, you're in your early 30s, graduated high school/college b/t '97 and '02? it seems all sunny day fans meet those criteria. i saw them in chapel hill during the "rising tide" tour. i also have that on vhs, but i again can't be assed to find space for my vcr in my current set-up. i heard they were doing a 2nd re-union tour mainly just playing stuff from "diary" and "pink" album, but i found out too score tickets to the atlanta show.

there are few bands after the goodies of the mid to late 90s indie scene that i can get into. i guess my musical taste was frozen in time around then. also, my wife hates most of the music i used to like as well. i guess i'll be one of those old people clinging to my oldies in 30 yrs...

graduated HS in 94 and college in 00, so yes... early 30s.....

My wife doesn't really care what I listen too.. she laughs at me, my tastes have always been all over the board... Like last night coming home with classical. before that it was The Fray, and before tori amos and john mayer, when all she knew i listened to was Incubis and foo fighters, KROQ(alternative music station in LA) or sports talk.

my wifey doesn't really care what i listen to either, but if she has to hear it too, i most definitely hear about it. i just bought a nice pair of sennheiser headphones, so i'm good for around the house, and for 8 hrs at work i always have my ipod on so i get my music fix in.

anyway, back on speaker topic and such...how's the aa 10" sub treating you? i'm looking to add another sub to get some more of the mid/upper bass i'm missing w/ the a2-300. i had a hsu stf-2 that was wonderful in the upper bass regions and could hold its own in the lower regions as well. i wish i still had it actually, but i don't know if i want to scrounge up another $350 or so to get another one...

To me the AA has been a solid performer. I would like to add another one so I can get more even bass throughout my living room. Bass is tight enough that it isn't muddy, and it can be a rather loud sounding sub. it gets to 20 hz and it feels like it.

Where can the frequency response specs for that sub be found?
