Excellent film. I didn't give it a 5/5 because I didn't love it, but it's a great film. My rating might improve upon a second viewing.

Viggo and Kodi were great. Highly recommend this one.
Im glad to see some people enjoyed this film. Everyone i hang with thinks this films was boring. I just look at them and shake my head. I guess everyone doesn't enjoy good acting and deep thinking. Some just simply want to be entertained.

You might be disappointed then, because she's only in it for about 5 - 10 minutes total probably.
i gave it a 4.5 i thought it was amazing and incredibly acted!

There is a lot to like about Soylent Green. Many dark themes run through it.

-incredible direction/cinematography. you really feel like you are on a cross-country journey. example: you know how when you're riding in a car in the backseat? what do you see? you see cars out the windshield when you're looking forward, and you see your buddy's eyes in the rear view mirror who is driving, as he looks back at you. so what does wenders do? He has a split-screen shot: top is rear view shot of driver's eyes, and bottom is view out the windshield. you can't watch it without BEING in that car, riding on that highway. its truly mesmerizing.
-loved how
[Show spoiler]they delay the release of information. it keeps you guessing and wondering why travis did what he did.
. the kid's performance is gut-wrenching. the film asks heavy questions:
[Show spoiler]what does it mean to right a wrong? just verbally apologizing, or is action required to do all one can do to right the wrong? how much action is needed?
. Travis' self-discovery is incredible, as the film progresses. Its only through his experiences throughout the film that
[Show spoiler] he realizes (1) when he's around the mom, he loses it and will keep drinking, (2) for the boy's sake, he has to only be with his mom.
This is the kind of self-discovery one must make on an objective level, like a fly on the wall. To look at yourself the same way someone else looks at you. Take subjectivity out of the equation. Great film.

PQ and AQ were great, 4.5/5
Glad you are back bro!!!

You are so right. It flows better with each viewing. It feels more fluid the 2nd or 3rd time around. Its like you connect better with what the director is trying to do to the audience. I guess I am saying that it has the intended effect.

A lovely gutwrencher.

On the contrary my good sir. The cast was fine. But I'd love to take a bowling pin and smash every fycking knuckle on the writers hands and then shove it so far up their wazoos that the pain would prevent them from every thinking about writing another script.

[Show spoiler]Whew...I DO feel better now.

i personally would choose LOST (always would choose LOST seeing as it's my favorite show of all time ) because of the:

- action
- writing
- character development
- the thousands of absolute "WTF?" moments the series is filled with
- the gorgeous PQ / AQ
- the drama
- the tension
- the suspense
- the terrific, legendary characters
- the way the show sinks its teeth into ya and never lets up
- oh, and the whole story the show tells that's one of the best parts

now, yes, Rome has many of these characteristics, but there's something about LOST that no show can other touch. additionally, (some may see it as a negative, but i see it as a positive) LOST is almost two shows in one. seasons 1-3 and 4-6 have different feels to them, but both are incredibly outstanding.

Rome is only 2 seasons (22 episodes) whereas LOST is over 100 episodes. so if you really want something to dive headfirst into that will keep you busy (and also has some great extras) i would say LOST would be your best bet. sure, Rome is (much) cheaper, but that shouldn't matter when deciding on a great tv series.

right now if someone were to ask me, "name 10 memorable things that happen in LOST?" i would be able to name 300. if someone were to ask the same thing for Rome? I could probably give you 10, but barely a few more.

end of speech

Well you fanboys win. Lost it is . Just have to save a little more.

Wait to get to your HT. The BD is beautiful and the colors are important to the mood. Dont shortchange yourself on this particular experience.

This was 2009's Oscar winner for best live action short film. It's set in 1942 Germany and is about a train to the death camps. This is harrowing filmmaking. Clocking in at 14 minutes, you'd be hard pressed to find a more emotional and well made short live action film. This is a must see.

Here's a link that not only has two articles about the film, but has the film itself. Enjoy.

Default Triage

Triage

2009 R 99 minutes

(C&P from Netflix)

Colin Farrell stars in this psychological drama about a photojournalist who returns home from a harrowing news assignment without the colleague who'd accompanied him. Now, his girlfriend (Paz Vega) will not rest until she finds out what took place.

I could listen to Paz Vega read a grocery list for hours. Not just her accent, but just her voice is so intoxicating. She is awfully easy on the eyes too. Oh yeah..... the movie....

At 99 minutes there is no fat here. Choppy, (needed) nonlinear and brisk storytelling.

Even non soldiers suffer the consequences of war long after they witness the horrors. Some, affected so profoundly, shut down in order to "cope". Some viewers may see the end truth before it arrives, but that didnt make it any less powerful for me.

I liked the direction, camerawork and acting a lot. All very good but not great. Still, I recommend catching this.

Film 4/5

PQ 4/5 a little soft on occasions

AQ 3.5/5 LFE during the conflict scenes is bombastic Lots of clear and accurate rear speaker action with great panning. The reason I only give 3.5/5 is the dialog was frequently too low and lost in ambient sounds. Not nearly prioritized strongly enough and I struggled during many conversations.

Just finished viewing Apollo 13.I got to say this may have the best audio of all my BD's.Grabbed me with the amazing fidelity at the first soundbite in Universal logo.Picture quality was also nice. But must say that what kept me from viewing this until now-american sentimentalism-was not unfounded. The score was over-the-top dramatic too.Jarred in my ears.Think the movie was technically very well made, but it was very marred by almost unbridled sentimentality.Maybe it was a movie for the generation before me.But was kind of interesting the scene at the start
[Show spoiler]which was was identical almost with Mission to mars-which I know came later, but was a kind of nice having Gary Sinise in both movies.Granted Apollo 13 is the better movie.

Movie:3/5

PQ:4.5/5

AQ:5/5

So, why the hell haven't i seen this film up until now? I blame all of you for not telling me how ridiculous this movie is. Why did it make me cry? Nothing "permanently" sad happens, but alas................t'was bittersweet.

PQ: 5/5 (How could it be anything but perfect?)
AQ: 4.5/5

Movie: 5/5
