I actually found this link somewhere in this blu-ray.com forum: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1244520

I only saw Avatar once in the cinema (Imax), but thought there was a big impact when the tree landed (but I'm prepared to admit my memory might be wrong). Many people in the AVS forum also feel the same way about the weak bass.

Weak bass aside, I think I like Avatar more after watching it on blu-ray than I did when I saw it theatrically. I don't think it's great, but it's easy to see why this film resonates so well with a wide audience. It really has something for everyone.

I'm thinking of picking this up today but could someone confirm something for me?

The review (on this site) said that it has Chinese subtitles but I went to the store this morning and looked at the back of the box, it only says English, French and Spanish subtitles. so is that a typo on the box and is there a Cantonese subtitle option in the main menu?

btw, I am in Canada so I dunno if we get a different version than the U.S.

No Chinese subtitles on the original release, but not sure about the Extended Edition. I can check for you when I get home later. Fox usually doesn't list all the subtitles, Night at the Museum does have Chinese subtitles even though it was not listed on the cover. I's say it's really possible.

Smile I got a copy.

I just got a copy of the 3D disc. It was free with the glasses and a player with the purchase of a TV. I'm not a fan of the movie, but I cannot wait to see it in 3D. I'm not getting my TV until Wednesday though.

Is there a recommended viewing order for the special editions? Like if I saw the theatrical edition should I watch the one with 8 min. of footage first, then the one with the other 8 min. of footage added??

It's really up to you as I went from the theatrical version directly to the version with the extra 16 minutes and I am glad I did. I won't ever watch any other version again.

Yeah, just watch the +16 min extended version, then watch the 45-ish minutes of cut/unfinished footage...

Default Question about Avatar Extended Edition case

I bought the original blu-ray release of Avater and loved it, although for some reason the movie skips and locks up my player during a few scenes, not sure why

so i was thinking about buying the extended edition and just tossing out the original copy, however it looks like it comes inside some kind of weird black cardboard case... is that just a fancy slipcover that can be removed to reveal a standard blu-ray case underneath?

i dont buy movies that come in cases that dont match so im holding out hoping one of you guys can answer for me... its the same reason i havent bought the matrix or Se7en yet, i cant stand digibooks either

i know it sounds weird but its one of my collector peeves

thanks

There is no regular case inside. It is a weird cardboard slip case. Actually I kind of like the design although I know alot of people around here probably don't. I wouldn't hold your breath for a reissue in a regular case because I don't think that will happen for a while, maybe never. I think the whole point is that it is eco-friendly and since that's part of the theme of the movie it would be counterproductive to reissue it in a plastic case.

is it still possible to find an original release copy in the wild do you think?

i only see the extended version around i just cant stand the thought of that case mixed in with the rest of my movies

not sure why my copy even skips, theres no scratches on it just a couple of "dimples" from where it looks like something pressed into it

i think my youngest pulled it out of the case at one point and it ended up underneath my tv stand

I was once like you, wanted all cases to be the same but now I have sections of my collection dedicated to "non-standard" Blu-ray packages and it looks great. There are some great movies out there that are either Digibooks or in some other form of different packaging... I highly recommend you do the same as I've done.

I'm not sure but I think they pulled the original release when this one came out but you may find one on e-bay or amazon. The big box stores probably won't have any left.

The case is weird but I just printed out a custom cover for the film and then put it in a standard BD case. Works fine.

im sure most of the movies i really want will come out in standard cases at some point

im holding out for the back to the future releases to come in standard cases as well as Alien quadrilogy

i know what you mean about putting the movies in their own section but that seems kinda odd too... like you put all your digibooks first in alphabetical order and then what? stard the standard releases after?
