I would have to assume that it's based off of the 1.01 home video master though, as it was released in November 2008 (i.e. 6+ months after the Japanese DVD). The thing is that I don't want to spend any money importing a copy to find out myself, as all of my remaining Evangelion-related budget is already earmarked for the Japanese 3.0+1.11 4K UHD.

You quite possibly could. It's not like I have any special knowledge that wasn't either gleaned off of publicly-accessible websites or else directly observed from physical media releases on my shelf.
Oh I've got that one, bought it for like $10 a few years ago on ebay, thought it'd be a cool little oddity to have. I made the page for the release. I've put it in to have a bit of a look, but haven't watched it all the way through, not the most optimal viewing of the movie aha

So, idk if it's the 1.0 version or an incorrectly labelled 1.01, idk what I'd really be looking to compare it to tbh

Just a neat thing to have I think. It has those nice crunchy yellow subs with black borders haha

3.0+1.0 is in Australian/New Zealand cinemas now btw, if anyone here was planning to see it:
https://www.crunchyrollmovienight.com/evangelionanz/

Looks like it might only be for the next few days.
I'm gonna try see it on Wednesday, bought my ticket already.

Periscoop Film is releasing 1.11/2.22/3.33 on Blu-ray & DVD in the Netherlands on November 18 (previously released by Dybex). Probably region free with English subtitles, but probably also on BD25 and without extras.

Not sure if I'm going to buy their release considering their track record, but their My Hero Academia: World Heroes' Mission BD was an improvement over their past output.

I am still waiting for an English release of 3.333.
3.33 was an upscale from a 1280x720p master, while the 3.333 version looks much better being sourced from a 2K DI.
If these would be BD25 releases, I am hoping that they would be great-looking 720p discs with 6.1 audio tracks.
Yeah, it's a bit raw having a 720p Blu-ray, but I would honestly want to see what 1.11, 2.22 and 3.33 look like without being pre-upscaled by Sony to 1080p.

Same. I was hoping that perhaps Neofilms (HK) would've put one out, but at this point my guess is that Khara simply hasn't made it available for international licensing yet.

Just got out of the cinema, was fun seeing it there. Though I noticed it was now 3.0+1.01
Was it like that when it went up on Amazon too? Or is that new?

"3.0+1.01" is the only version that Amazon has ever used on their Prime Video platform, which makes sense since it debuted during the back half of the original Japanese theatrical run.

As such, it's currently the most recent revision available until it gets superseded by the upcoming "3.0+1.11" UHD/BD/DVD releases beginning in March 2023.

Such a shame they never made an IMAX DCP of the updated versions.
Still, this may be the only way to watch the original 3.0+1.0 in English.

Annoyingly, they haven't announced if the imax screenings are of the sub or the dub.

Normally, I'm a sub guy, but recently I started getting into the Evangelion Dubs because I realized how much I was missing visually. A lot of it started to actually make sense!

Now, I'm gonna go to the imax screening regardless, but personally I hope they do the Dub so I can more bask in visuals.

Either way, this is an exciting time to be an Eva fan! I remember when it was just this thing that only I ever heard of and I slowly got my friends into it. Now, I'm actually going to see the last movie in Imax! I can't wait!

Apparently, the Japanese don’t want a box set release with the Rebuild films. I would assume this applies to GKIDS too, if they license rescue the other three films in the future. This likely goes for other international territories as well. Dynit does note that a box set may happen after Japan releases one first.

I'm glad that it looks like that there won't be a Rebuild box set in Japan, as I really don't want to buy additional JP releases of the first three films since I already have the following:
[Show spoiler]

  • 1.01 (2-DVD Ltd. Ed. set)
  • 1.11 (Blu-ray)
  • 2.22 (Blu-ray)
  • 3.33 (Blu-ray + CD)
  • 3.333 (Blu-ray)
Being able to just buy 3.0+1.11 by itself in order to complete my JP Evangelion collection would be ideal.

Looks exactly how I expected it to, as it continues the color pattern that the 1.01 (red), 2.22 (orange), and 3.33 (teal) digipaks previously followed.

I just hope it's a completely different packaging than my existing three Blu-rays, as they're all in different cases. I'm not being sarcastic, I really hope the US release is something weird and unique.

It'll be annoying if it gets the standard GKIDS spine treatment only and thus will be way more inconsistent with 2.22 and 3.33 than 1.11 was with them. This has been an inconsistent mess in a variety of ways, but it'd be nice if people could complete their shelf without something even more inconsistent at the end.

It’ll probably be more consistent if and when they reissue the first three. Of course depending on how much you care about the dubs, they probably won’t have FUNimation’s superior versions.

I bought a slightly used Zidoo Z1000 Pro today so I can watch UHD MKVs. Just need a BD drive for the Mac that reads UHD discs now. Almost ready for February!
