The upgrades benefit the performance in all areas of performance. However, you can purchase either the 885 or the 886 directly from Dave Schulte of the Upgrade Company and quite possibly save yourself some money.

That has nothing to do with it. A Pre/Pro is a very different animal than a lot of other components. It is not only about the equipment and design and parts, but there is a lot of software and programming, etc. that goes into the design. If the designer does not have the knowledge or the design experience it could potentially be a real problem to the buyer. Now, if they have someone with experience in this area or it is being designed for them outside of Emotiva that could be another question. But, there is always concern when a company starts manufacturing products in a new area (and in this case a complicated one) that they have no experience making. All you and others can do is wait to see the outcome and await the reviews unless you just wish to be one of the original buyers.

Rich
Rich,

sorry man, but you dont know what you're talking about. Emotiva does not just make amps for other companies...

A man who believes in fuses making all the difference in the world can have his own opinion i guess...

If you know someone in the US that you could have the Onkyo 886 shipped to from Accessories4less.com. (who would then ship it to you) or you live close enough to the US to pick up the unit, it may be something to consider.

Rich,
let me see if I got this right.

So let's see..................
DMC-1......LMC-1.......MMC-1........DMR-1
So what were these?????? Oh yeah, the DMR-1 was an AV receiver, not a processor. Also, let's not forget the early Sunfire Theater Grands, that were built on the same production line, and plug for plug, feature for feature, were nearly identical to the Emos, or vice verse.....doesn't matter.

And by the way, I dumped my Onkyo in favor of the system I have today.

I just read through the last so many posts. I didn't intend to derail this thread with posting my newly purchased 886. I simply got antsy with the latest UMC delay, but I also wanted to try out some of the newest Audyssey features that are on the 886. I still intend to pick up a UMC and will do a comparison with the 886 to determine which I'll keep. Besides, isn't testing out different gear at least half the fun of this hobby?

Anyway, back on topic. My XPA-2 and XPA-5 ! I was initially going to sell my LPAs which were previously used in a biamp setup, but I'm having a difficult time parting with them. So it looks like I'm going to hang on to them and sell 2 aging Yamaha flagship AVRs that are doing 2nd HT and office duty. I plan on picking up a couple of LMC-1s with the money, which I'm sure there'll be at least a few going up for sale when the UMC releases. I know at least one of you in this thread that might have one to sell.

You nailed it, cB. I telecommute for work, and the unit arrived 10 minutes after I started my work day. It was pure torture having it there staring at me all day that by the time my work day was over I pretty much tore the box open and never looked back!

If your refering to the Onkyo PR-SC889p, I would like to hear your opinion of it as I too am really getting tired of waiting on the UMC-1 and would like to hear what someone who has one of these has to say about it. I would also like to hear what you have to say when (which could be a long time) the UMC-1 does come out your comparison notes and why you kept the one you will end up keeping. I am very interested and i've got an itchy trigger finger!

Well, I won't say I got tired of the wait . I'm fully behind Emo trying to get the kinks worked out before going market. The Onkyo/Integra offerings have simply been on my radar for a while, even before I learned of the UMC when it was initially labeled the LMC-2. The latest Audyssey features (among other things) got me curious so I got antsy and pulled the trigger.

So anyway, yes, I'm talking about the PR-SC886 (not the P model as the unit doesn't have the rack mounts). This thread wouldn't be appropriate for a review so the only thing I'll say is that I've had a huge on my face all day after finally getting everything tweaked. Nevertheless, I'll be sure to post my impressions after I get my hands on a UMC.

http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr...w&zzhifi=fuses

From experience, it has been found that the HiFi Tuning or Isoclean (Isoclean fuses are used in this upgrade) can have a positive affect, negative affect, or no affect on equipment performance.

Rich,

I am pretty sure the hate comes from this.

Jason,

No one can try one of the new Emo Pre/Pros unless they are part of a Beta Test Team at this point. Whether, I may have gone too far in suggesting that Emo is not very experienced with Pre/Pros, I would still be somewhat concerned with a new product like this. But, I would frequently be concerned about a new product like this from a lot of companies.

Until the Onkyo 885 and Integra 9.8 came out, I and a lot of people were not sure that they would be a success or failure with these units. And Onkyo/Integra had experience with successful Pre/Pros already. We were pleasantly surprised as to how well they performed for the price. The same may be true for the new Emo. But, again until someone gets it into their hands it is still a question and there may or may not be a lot of bugs to be solved. If there aren't any, then I am mistaken and I will be the first to admit it.

Rich
