Loved this movie, great continuation of the series, combining the cheesy elements of 2 with the horror elements of 1. Fantastic 3D too.

I saw nothing in evidence of either the first or second in the series. I suppose in terms of quality it veers closest to The Next Generation but at least the makers of that film had the wisdom to realise that one of the key elements in the TCM films is that they don't depend on one character (ie Leatherface) to deliver the scares and that this is about a family of villains.

Yes that was one of the biggest failures for this sequel,
[Show spoiler]all of the other sequels had the sense to keep leatherface with a family. This one did not and now we are left with Leatherface and some long lost child apparently from the Sawyer family
. They should have made a sequel to 4 to be honest, this one will be known to me as the Jason X of the series or the Halloween: resurrection of the series.

I thought this movie was miles better than Jason X and Halloween Resurrection. I can't even make it through 10 minutes of those movies without wanting to turn it off. But that's just me.

Those films are in the same league in my opinion, it's also up there with Freddy's dead: the final nightmare.

I gave the movie a 3 star rating, it was a good enough film for the genre that it is in, and the 3D was pretty decent too. It's good enough for a rental, I suppose, unless you're a hardcore fan of the series.

I really couldn't give a tinker's cuss about the 3D. Having chainsaws thrust out of the screen at you does not make a good film. The 3D is totally incidental to aspects like atmosphere, soundtrack, screenplay, editing and direction - and this film comes up lacing in all of those departments.

The people who made this film clearly had no understanding of what made other films in the series so successful. I should have known what kind of idiocy I was in for, though, when the cop pulled up at the start and told Drayton he wanted his son Jed. Drayton is the brother of Leatherface, not the father.

Talk about damning with faint praise.

Just because some horror films cater to the lowest common denominator does not mean that should be the aspiration for all who work in the field. And one does not have to be a "hardcore" fan of the series to be utterly disappointed and insulted by this cretinous piece of work.

Well 3D is not incidental to direction or atmosphere, especially with a native title like this. I find that 3D enhances the atmosphere of the movie, drawing me in more. In fact i haven't even watched this movie in 2D, seen it about five times in 3D though. In fact you've inspired me to watch it again tonight!

These are the kinds of movies i grew up watching in the 80's, fun, cheesy slasher movies. They are my bread and butter.

The original TCM -which every film in the series should be aspiring to (and if not, why bother at all?) - is neither fun nor cheesey. And nor is it a slasher, although the original film, it could be said, did give birth to the masked slasher icon of the late seventies/early eighties.

I maintain that 3D is simply a gimmick and, to be fair, you've not actually mentioned any part of the movie where such a gimmick has enhanced the atmosphere or been endemic to the direction of the movie.

I've nothing against anyone enjoying this film but, please, let's not pretend that it has qualities beyond its reach.

The TCM series has had a rocky road. This film was its dead end.

Ok well I'm not discussing the original movie I'm discussing this one. The 3D enhances the whole movie for me, I'm sorry i didn't make that clear. The whole movie has excellent locations and the 3D is gorgeous throughout. I'm not one of these 3D fans that think pop outs are the only merit of 3D. Although this does have some good ones. The movie's 3D presentation really succeeds mainly with its sense of depth and layers. It just looks gorgeous to me.

I don't think I'm pretending it has qualities beyond its reach. Not sure what i said that prompted that. I did call it a fun slasher movie after all. Its not like I'm trying to make out its early Argento or something.

The film is called Texas Chainsaw. It has a character called Leatherface. It touts itself as being a direct sequel to the original, even going so far as to begin with a montage from the original film and getting cameos from the surviving actors from that film.

The film is inviting a direct comparison to the original. So a discussion of the original is inevitable, even if doing so undermines any favourable remarks anyone might make about this hopeless piece of shit movie which you still have failed to defend beyond saying that you liked the look of the 3D and that it reminds you of other piece of shit movies from the 80s.

What about the music? What about the screenplay? The direction? The performance of Leatherface - something upon which a film called Texas Chainsaw is dependent if it's to achieve anything of note as a horror movie.

In attempting to reboot a series, it is essential that the film restores the respect and credibility to that franchise whilst at the same time being a worthy successor to the film that started the whole thing off in the first place.

Surely you must know this?

Ok you're being quite patronising now so any hopes of a civilised discussion have gone out the window. Lets just agree to disagree!
