Really hoping for a 4k release. I'd even settle for digital-only. This movie would look gorgeous in 4k, and the colors are practically begging for Dolby vision

I'd take Walt's moral compass over anyone's at Disney right now any day of the week. Look, Walt was human, he made mistakes. ALL humans make mistakes. It's part of being human. That said, some humans do a better job at becoming their best self more than others. That ain't Bob Iger.

Remember sitting front row for this in the theater as a kid and playing the scratch-off game at McD's.

My parents wouldn't let me see it when it first came out. I had to wait till it came to VHS. But I do remember the McD's scratches and the Playmate Toys action figures.

I had the NES Video game from Ban Dai. I had a Dick Tracy wallet for the longest during second grade and I remember really wanting that radio watch that he uses. My cousin had the flat top action figure from playmates.

2025 would be the perfect year to give this a 4K release but since it’s Disney I’m being cautiously optimistic.

Unfortunately Dick Tracy is a pretty much completely forgotten or unknown character and universe now to so many people. It's pretty sad when these things happen, like how Dennis the Menace ended up being unrecognized after a certain point on Dairy Queen branded cups. There are no longer even Flintstones push-up pops. Not sure how a reboot would go, but it'd place interest in the characters again and possibly raise the chance of uhd for this film. Though Disney are stubborn so who knows. I was surprised Willow was even released on uhd.

always remembered seeing this opening night in the UK - went to school that day (friday 20th july - a hot summer ) and saw this after finishing school for the summer and was disappointed by it - of course i was only seeing it for Madonna - the next day she was on radio 1 with her blond ambition tour live and she swore a lot - such a happy and vivid summer 1990 was - i will never forget it - i dont think this film did well due to the batman comparison and also beatty in his 50s was far too old for this role which is another reason i dont think the film is fondly memorable - madonna was good in it though and i loved the make up, score and cinematography but the film was pretty hollow overrall.

So, I hear that this film was originally intended for a 4:3 aspect ratio to mimic squarish comic book panels and the old Dick Tracy films. And it’s only been released in that ratio on VHS and LD. So I just snagged the LD off eBay for super cheap and this my first time watch will be in the intended AR. Really looking forward to it.

A reboot is not in the cards since Warren Beatty still controls the rights. You should look up the “movies” he’s put out in order to retain those rights. I’m sure Disney has little interest in exploiting the movie any further because of it.

Dick Tracy goes into the public domain in 2027 though.

Dude will have nothing here soon.

The public domain won’t have anything beyond the earliest strips, most of the iconic elements like the wrist radio plus several key characters didn’t debut for years, even decades into the run of the strip.

So the rights are still valuable for some time. Even if you were to stop when Gould stopped and considered that prime canon Dick Tracy it will be 2073 before his final strips will be PD.

Dick Tracy would make for a great HBO series.

Great film, great sets, great cinematography, and great score. So many character actors, mostly unrecognizable. Pacino is absolutely brilliant in it.

I saw this over a decade ago with Warren Beatty answering questions after the show. He loved making this film and said that he still wanted to make a sequel. I recall that he said that the cast wasn't hard to assemble.

If he still has it, and he probably does, I wish him luck.

Disney needs to release this for the 35th Anniversary!!!

Picked up the Blu-Ray recently and popped it in. I haven't watched this since the 90s but loved it as a teen.

A 4K disc with HDR would make this movie look amazing. The colors would really be something.

MAKE IT HAPPEN DISNEY!

I just watched this the other day and I sort of went "woah" in the scene where Big Boy Caprice is berating Mahoney and he smacks her in the belly. I was like, that was real! I even read up on it and he actually did hit her for real in that scene.

Flat Top was always my favorite character.

In any event, I love the film. I went to the library and checked out the first 10 volumes of the collected stories from IDW.

Happy 35th Anniversary. Let's hope for a future 4K release by Disney and if possible a Dolby Atmos sound.
