SS even pushed the release date back on purpose until after the election because it was a "political" film.

I loved the film but I also loved Argo so I am torn on who I will be rooting for. One thing I do know is that DDL should win Best Actor hands down.
It's 100% about the man - the arena he duels in is the American potlitcal arena, and his character is illustrated by how he fights and what he fights for.

This made me so happy. Great video. Shows how easy and over hyped the real performance is.

Argo and Lincoln are both great films, but I think the tighter editing and more concise storytelling makes Argo better.

Off the subject--slightly--how many (not many, I'm guessing) tuned in to the NAACP Image Awards, for positive black images in film/TV, and saw George Lucas win Outstanding Motion Picture, as producer of Red Tails?
And for his first acceptance speech, held up the award and joked, "Look, I beat Quentin Tarantino!"

(Which sort of summed up my opinion on Django:
Quentin's adolescent B-adrenaline likes to do a LOT of kissing-up to fantasy images of "persecuted" minorities he doesn't belong to, but when the real blacks think that even George Lucas makes a better depiction, that's, um, not good.)

Also beat out Beasts of the Southern Wilds for the award, which also makes sense.

For the record, those awards are even more of a complete waste than the golden globes.

Because slavery wasn't really "persecution," right?

Well, was thinking more in the sense of "Quentin wasn't actually black, although he's seen a lot of Isaac Hayes movies, and remembers Mandingo from the 70's."
(To similarly question Inglorious Basterds' Oscar standings, I highly doubt he was Jewish, either.)

I'm in children's books, and I remember the time when one rather obnoxious well-known fantasy/folktale author wrote in one magazine about the "freedom" to blossom one's inner creativity by adopting an ethnicity and retelling world folktales from any country--Which sparked some rather heated responses from those actual ethnic authors, one titling their response "It's Not Halloween".
In Quentin's case, I often find myself adding that it's not the 70's Cult Classics shelf at Blockbuster either.

There is nothing over hyped about Hathaway's performance at all. It was brilliant on all fronts.

DGA Awards - BEN AFFLECK adds another piece of hardware to the mantle for "ARGO"

ben_affleck_dga_carpet.jpg

Quote:
The 65th annual Directors Guild of America Awards ceremony saw Ben Affleck continue his streak of taking home prizes for Argo, despite not having earned an Oscar nomination for directing the film.

Affleck won the award for feature film director.

That's a wrap for Best Picture prognostication. In true Oscar tradition the best picture in the field will not win the award, and what had been an exciting race has all but fizzled now. In mini-retrospect, what a big surprise a film about Hollywood saving the day would win the top prize, right?

With all of the apparent love for this picture in the industry, it's a wonder it didn't lead the field in nominations; and makes the no-nom for Afleck in Direction that much more of a head-scratcher. Could there have been an issue with nomination ballots or something?
