Default The Golden Voyage of Sinbad (1973) (Limited Edition) - SOLD OUT

Courtesy of Twilight Time

Quote:
In The Golden Voyage of Sinbad (1973), animation/special effects genius Ray Harryhausen gives us another installment in the adventures of Sinbad (John Phillip Law), the swashbuckling sailor here pitted against the nefarious master of the black arts, Koura (Tom Baker). As the two race to find a magical treasure trove, Sinbad must confront a host of astonishing creatures, including a wee winged homunculus, a one-eyed centaur, and a six-armed, scimitar-wielding deity, the dreaded Kali. Featuring a spectacular score by the inimitable Miklos Rozsa (Ben-Hur), available on this Twilight Time release as an isolated track.

I really hope they use those posters, but they'll probably be relegated to the booklet.

Sony

They could have easily released a trilogy of the Harryhausen Sinbad films, and it would have sold just fine in a wide release. The first is already widely released, so now anyone who wants the whole thing will have to pay up. What a terrible studio.

Until you made this comment, I never realized that the 1958 Sinbad film was on blu ray already, and has been for like 5 years now....thanks! I might have to check it out. I've never actually seen the film, but I like the score Bernard Herrmann did for it.

Have to agree 100%. I've bought my fair share of Twilight time titles, but can't stand the whole model. Sony, the inventor of Bluray, should be ashamed.

However I buy anything with Caroline Munro in it. I'll get golden voyage, but Eye of the Tiger is just a bad film IMO and not one of Harry's best. Its more akin to old 50's giant creature movies.

If you like Caroline may I suggest a very undersold Bluray release. Starcrash. Hilariously bad movie, but she looks oh so good in it.

Aw, crap! And it IS, too!
(More Arabian atmosphere than the squeaky-clean 50's Seventh Voyage, and better actors than the goofy 70's-ishness of Eye of the Tiger.
Not to mention Tom Baker originally getting the Doctor Who gig BECAUSE of playing the evil wizard in the movie.)

At this point, just wish TT would realize that their name was a bit prematurely pessimistic over nothing, and use the "limited edition" stunt as simply testing title awareness for future scaled-down mass-market re-dips.
Then we might get Christine and Birdie back again.

Assuming you mean Bye Bye Birdie (not sure what other TT "Birdie" would refer to), it is still in print with about 500 remaining.

Amazon has a third party seller dvdbargainbuy selling it for $39.99 + $3.99 shipping/handling. I just jumped on it after reading that Sony let Seventh Voyage of Sinbad go OOP. Same with Jason and the Argonauts (OOP).

I am so all over this. I love this movie, The best Sinbad in the series (John Phillip Law), best Villain (Tom Baker) and Caroline Munro is a tie for most beautiful leading lady alongside Jane Seymour in SInbad and The Eye of The Tiger. I have to keep my dvd's though. I had the pleasure of meeting Ray Harryhausen and he was kind enough to sign them for me.

There is every chance it could be released in the UK at a much better price and with more extras. TT released The Fury at the inflated price and supposed ltd edition only for ARROW to be releasing it with a host of extras and a full restoration. So it appears that TT releases are only limited to the US.

But The Fury is Fox. Sony doesn't license out films in the UK, so if anyone released it there, it would have to be Sony. Considering Sony's reticence to release anything, TT may be the only way to go for this title. In any case, there wouldn't be any new extras on a hypothetical UK Sony release of (the) Sinbad (movies).

Exactly. The only region that may get it is Germany as Sony's dept. there seems more willing to release catalog titles, and they actually released the first Sinbad movie there too, unlike in the UK. Its still very unlikely since these aren't exactly titles that are high in demand, but it's not impossible.
