But on personal experience, for Boy Scouts back in the day, we would do winter camping by renting out local cabins, ice skate on the lake, etc. It's not as common, but people do camp in the winter.

Paramount sucks. I was so happy when they got the rights back as I really didn't like anything New Line did, but all they did was ONE remake and are just sitting on them, wasting time. Boo.
Good point, and not a bad idea for a script either.

When I was in the boy scouts, I definitely remember going out in the winter. I also went winter/early spring camping once with a group. I don't remember exactly what time of year it was but it was frigid in the morning and there was some light snow. It may have been early spring. We've gotten snow storms in April before so it's certainly possible.

Maybe cancelling this is a good thing. Let James Wan produce a Friday the 13th movie. Screw Michael Bay! His team don't know how to make a Friday the 13th movie. They had the rights for five years, and they don't do anything?

Well if Paramount didn't keep delaying it... they have no one to blame but themselves.

As far as the winter/snow idea, it could just be a group of skiers who get stuck in the storm during their trip and take shelter at the cabins.

Variety has a little more detail on why it was canceled, and it was a combination of disappointing opening for Rings, the upcoming rights reversion, and a $21 million budget (they could have got a $5.6 million tax credit for shooting in California, but waited too long to begin production and the credit expired).

Sigh Paramount, you ended up giving away international rights to Interstellar for nothing.

Apparently Paramount has not just pushed it back but they cancelled it altogether. Director and crew have been informed to move on. Sad news
This crap needs to be buried anyway.

This friggin sucks. I was looking forward to seeing a new Friday the 13th film in the theater FINALLY. Ugh. F*** Paramount.

Maybe WB will do something once they gain the rights back. This would've probably been a shitty rush job with how late they started, but man does it hurt to finally hear about progress and then it's dead in a few weeks. Would really love to see that winter-set Friday.

I wonder how this affects potential rereleases of the classic films on Blu-ray.

Rings was poorly marketed, and ring 2 sucked.
A 21 million budget, sounds nuts imo for this kind of film.
I think this is for the best fellas.

Saw this coming from a mile away. I'm not holding my breath for another F13 film. As much as I'd love a new one, I don't see it happening.

It's really baffling to me as to why they didn't just do a sequel to the 2009 reboot.

Hopefully this is the end of remakes/reboots of horror films and they focus on more original stories.........

Jason direct to bluray/dvd? I wouldn't mind more Friday The 13th's if done this way since I never go to the theater but some like seeing these slasher movies on the big screen. Eventually all the big slashers from the 80's will be revived and be regulated only to straight to video movies.

How the **** you would ever need $21m to make a Friday the 13th movie I will never know. These producers must be morons or off their heads on ketamine. I mean, seriously, on what ****ing planet would you need 21 MILLION to make a Friday the 13th film!?!

It's really easy. Follow the Blumhouse model, keep the budgets low, around $3-5m and allow the Writer/Director more creative freedom. Voila! At the absolute minimum you'd make your money back on the name recognition alone.

STUPID!

Hell no! These Direct-To-Video movies only cheapen the brand. The Friday the 13th movies aren't Oscar-worthy films by any stretch, but Jason Voorhees is one of the most iconic horror characters out there. He deserves better.
