Good audio and video quality?? Or a waste of nearly $60
To parrot what's already been said, it's currently the best release available, but still has some flaws due to the master being used. I'd say go for it if it were the only option for the foreseeable future, but we know for a fact that a label with a proven track record for quality is working on this, from a brand new scan from the negative, as opposed to the problematic master everyone else has used (I've said it before, but Synapse is the one label I trust the most with Suspiria; even more than Criterion). The extras on that one, if I'm reading Diabolik's listing right, appear to be in Italian, with German subtitles, which would take away from the benefit of the extras DVD. And while I love the option of having the score on CD (and wish this was done more often with home video releases), it can be gotten separately (not to mention the Anchor Bay DVD set came with it as well).

Ultimately, I'm waiting for Synapse's release, and I'd advise others to do the same.

Don May of Synapse considers this title his holy grail.
Those who have seen the work being done on this claim it's stunning.
Can't wait.

The German release does look impressive but I've waited so many years for Suspiria on BLU that I can wait longer for the Synapse edition. like the previous post mentioned this promises to be a great release that will be worth the wait.

According to a post on Facebook, it looks like the Library of Congress has an excellent quality I.B. Technicolor print of SUSPIRIA with the actual original 4-track mag stereo soundtrack intact, and Synapse might be given access to said print to help with their release...

I am thinking the same. I have been waiting so long that an extra year or whatever won't make much difference. Plenty of other releases to get and watch in the meantime.

Don posted an update about SUSPIRIA
Quote:
Interesting observations about SUSPIRIA after two days. First, it is the most difficult project I've ever done in my career. Second, the original negative will require extensive restoration. There are tears, dirt, splices, scratches and printed in fingerprints all over it, which begs the question: What did they use in 2007 for that blown out transfer? This doesn't look like the same element they used and, if it is, then someone severely damaged it since they scanned it. Also, who has the original Italian opening credits negative, because it is gone from the vault? We recreated the titles using the original title transparencies that WERE still on file in the vault, thankfully. The 2007 master does have extensive DNR restoration corruption (along with the blown out highlights), but there is much more severe damage to the negative that doesn't seem present on the old master. Third, it looks like all previous transfers in 2.35:1 have been zoomed in slightly to remove splice marks, glue, etc. The film frames perfectly, with more info showing on all four sides on ours, in an aspect ratio of 2.40:1, which JUUUUUSST hides the majority of bottom splices that were visible in 2.39:1.
This is exhilarating, challenging, fun and it's going to look awesome.

So we may not get it in 2015 after all?

I really hope we do, been waiting a while for this one But on the other hand, I'd prefer to get it later and see it done right.

This.

Between now and then(whenever then is)if I feel like watching the movie, I have it on DVD still.

I'll gladly wait until 2016 if I need to but in the mean time I hope they give an update on the other Argento films they're working on. Not sure how many employees they have and if they're doing one at a time or have split up the films between multiple people.

I found this update from Don a couple days ago:

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...postcount=1132

If this does get released in 2015, it won't be until Q4. But they've got other good stuff coming so the wait won't seem that long.

Agreed, as long as it is the best they can manage with the resources they have. Also, I don't want people talking of the color timing like the Halloween blus.

Man, if it doesn't surface until 2016, that'll be fine because that would mean this would be a god-tier upgrade for my old three disc Anchor Bay DVD set.

Not read much of this thread so this may have been answered.
Is this going to be another Synapse stitchup like Demons or will it be generally available?
