Jim has stated WB's plans. As Jose in Bella said, "Plans change." Here's hoping.
I think what happened is that someone decided that Silverburg had said too much. I suspect his comments accurately reflect Warner's thinking but they decided they didn't want to be saying this publicly.

Default But AFTER Christmas...

If they said they were bailing on H-DuD, then Dudders would not buy their already produced titles through Christmas (revenue loss). But after Q4, then CAN asses and make their "plans" if they choose.

Exactly. We will outsell them on all of their big releases this holiday season as well so keep up the good work.

They'll follow the market, simple as that.

If HD-DVD continues to lose market share, despite the cheaper players, it's inevitable all studios will eventually drop support for it, it's just a matter of being patient.

I would be shocked if they weren't being paid all along for every HD-DVD player sold. Why else wouldn't they release BB, Matrix, V, and Posiedon? No one else has even come close to doing that much for the HD-DVD format. You guys can keep wasting your time swearing by them. Keep chasing that carrot. It would have been nice. However, the facts always spoke for themselves.

i really dont believe this but im happy they still make movies on blu. this format war will start to get very interesting unless the bda can drop prices a lot. i know and almost everyone on this website knows the difference between 1080i and 1080p players but the average consumer does not and will jump at a cheap player. honestly if the formats were the same quality i wouldn't care who won and would have both players already, but there is a giant quality gap between the two formats.

Just a bit of corporate cover-up. Just buy and they will make the right decision.

Warner is planning on supporting both throughout 2008

Warner Says Blu-ray Comments "Misquoted and Misconstrued"

Lets finally lay our hopes aside and concentrate on supporting blu.

"Like any major company, we are always reviewing our strategies in every aspect of our business, it is what smart companies do. I can't say what may happen five, ten years down the line. But right now, Warner Bros. has made no decision to change course. We are still onboard with both formats, and will continue [with a strong line-up of new releases and catalog titles], just as we have in the past in supporting HD DVD and Blu-ray."
Thanks for the info/links.... hmmn, I read the article and it is slightly dissappointing. I just hope the 4th quarter sales will influence WB to choose Blu and get this over with.

Can you imagine that their phone has been ringing off the hook since that comment was made.Mostly from the RED side as you can imagine. Mind you it was in no way being mis-quoted otherwise it would have been corrected allot sooner.

If they put out the new statement it will shut all those people up.

Best thing to do is keep supporting WARNER and make the choice easier for them.

I'll definitely keep buying warner BD product. The harm done by not buying warner BD will be greater than any 'benefit'.

heck if enough BD supporters do shun warners, that might cause them to drop BD altogether ..

you have to read between the lines and look at key words...

they are "planning" to support both formats throughout 2008....

and honestly, through the holidays...that's probably smart...

even if they have already made their mind up, they can't disclose this info as it would likely hurt their HD DVD sales..

and they could choose a side by the time 2008 is over....but they worded this very carefully...and it doesn't mean they aren't leaning either way...

they just have to act like they are split down the middle...

what I am doing is....I plan on buying 2 movies every time I make a purchase....

one purchase from another studio....and one from Warner....each time...
