The key is, dont turn on "deep color", not sure why they even call it that. If you leave that off, the player will output 422 12 bit and the LG Oled's handle that just fine. If you use deep color it outputs 444 12 bit and that can cause issue.

Samsung displays seem to have problems with 12 bit period, but LG's do not.

Correct. It's not the 12-bit upsampling itself that's causing the issue, it's the combination of that plus 4:4:4 chroma which is causing some TVs to choke on it, Samsungs in particular. All people need to do is switch it to 4:2:2 and the problem is solved.

Its funny, people make a big deal out of the Panny and 422 12bit and what does the Oppo 203 do if you set it on auto everything?

Outputs 422 12 bit LOL.

I know, one of the first things I did in the OPPO thread at AVF was to point this out to people! And if they output 12-bit 4:4:4 from the OPPO to a TV that choked on the same output from the Panny.....they also get the banding.

Sure, the OPPO can be be busted down to native 10-bit which is fine as that also solves the problem, but all people have to do is switch the Panny to 4:2:2 and that will also fix it. The banding issue has always been a display problem rather than a player one.

Yep. I have both right now, but if Oppo doesn't fix the HDR strip soon I won't be selling, was my primary reason for buying so I wouldnt need the HD Fury.

After reading the HDTV Test review on the 700, I mean you know either the 900 or the 203 and you have a top notch UHD player. Maybe Sony will bring some competition to the market in '17, but according to something posted at AVS, their 2017 UDH player will only be available thru custom installers in the US!

Same resolution screen from 4K. But HDR is different than SDR

Maybe your television possible on HDR enable from HDMI 2.0a or 2.0b and 2.1

HDR is greater than the original!

Ive watched one HDR flick and one 1080p flick, and Id say nothing stands out. No A/B comparison. To be honest they both look good.

Already having the 900, Id say no. I mean you are going to lose money selling the 900 and then have to spend another $575 for the Oppo.

Here it's much cheaper than the OPPO, it can be bought for about £449/$550 new whereas the OPPO is £649/$800, a considerable increase.

It boggles my tiny little mind that the Panny retails for MORE than the OPPO in the States! That's crazy.

There shouldn't be any difference. Both players display the data from the disc, and both have really good upscalers.

i went out and bought the oppo 203 today to compare with my UB900 and this is what i think after spending all night doing comparisons on my B 65 4k OLED.

the UB900 is better in nearly every way for picture quality. the oppo is soft in comparison. i watched around 10 UHD discs and 5 blu rays. taking revenant as an example which is a super super sharp UHD disc, it just looked softer on the oppo. less dynamic.

one thing that the oppo is better in is motion. everything seems smoother on the oppo for sure

the ub900 upscaling on blu rays is much better as well. the picture just looks more dynamic, alot sharper and more punch.
HDR looks better on the UB900 as well. it just looks like it pops more.

yes the build quality on the oppo is absolutley incredible but i just cant ignore the picture quality differences. i was already happy with my UB900 but the hype got to me and i had to find out for myself!

also there are so many problems with the oppo. this is what i have found so far.

takes way too long to load some discs
very noisy when loading discs, UB900 is totally silent ALL the time
menus in certain 4k discs dont work. lucy, i cant select region and cant see the main menu. have to press enter to start it up
random slow motion which lasts around 3 seconds then goes back to normal
occasionally when powering up, it does nothing. have to pull plug out of wall to fix it.
sharpness control on the oppo doesnt work at all. turn it up to max and nothing happens lol

im sure with updates they will improve it but right now its a mess! shouldnt of rushed it to market so soon!

Agreed, I'm loving my panny ub700 the picture is stunning and it's silent during playback which couldn't be said for the Oppo
