This was awesome. There's this amazing intensity in the beggining as we see Wick on the run, with danger at every corner, and it's so fun to see. We've seen Wick cool and calculated in the first movie, and we start to see him get a little more unraveled in the 2nd, but we get the full "Baba Yaga" in this one. Some of the kills at the start are insanely brutal, and myself and the rest of the audience loved every second of it. Keanu Reeves is a beast, and just consistently delivers throughout this franchise.
While a small part of me was hoping it would just be a non-stop killing spree, that would probably be too much, so the movie shifts its focus to the story, and the world they created, and constantly expand on is one of the best things about this franchise. It's one of the major things that separate it from other action films in my opinion. There's just such a nicely developed and complex universe at play here, something we had little knowledge of at the start. The structure of the film felt very much like a video game, going from one cool locale to another, and creating great set pieces for Wick to do what he does best. You really feel like the filmmakers are having fun with the action now too, both in the over the top ways that people are killed, but also in some humor during the fights too. While I still prefer the first movie, each sequel has carved out its own identity nicely, and keeps on building on top of that great original foundation,. I can't wait to see where they take the franchise to next. 5/5 Last edited by MifuneFan; 05-18-2019 at 06:58 PM. |

Absolutely loved this movie just like the prior 2! This is how action movies and world building should be done!

The action really delivered in John Wick 3, and while it does get repetitive at times, there are only so many effective ways to eliminate his enemies, so all of the double tap head shots and over the shoulder flips are acceptable.
![]() A favorite scene is with Keanu and Halle Berry, both kicking ass with their hand guns and the two dogs. That was new. John Wick did take plenty of cover, so that was cool. His acting was a bit better than from his stilted performance in John Wick 2, but not as natural as his voice was in John Wick 1. It seems he's still having trouble getting his words out for some reason. But not a big deal, as it's not his acting that makes John Wick such an effective character. Keanu did an awesome job with the fights, some of which looked potentially dangerous with those knives and axes, fake or not. A lot of fun action and fancy moves by John, and this films gives part 2's story more credibility in some ways. I also like how it ties everything back to the first film, and even shows some of John's origins as an assassin. Entertaining action film and a worthwhile sequel to the first two films. Order of Favorite first: John Wick 1: 9/10 John Wick 3: 8/10 John Wick 2: 8/10 |

Don't really have much to say about this other than that it was fine. Definitely not as good as the first one, but probably slightly better than the second. Clearly there's gonna be at least one more, but I'm hoping it'll be an ending. Halle Berry is the MVP though.

Four and a half stars
After John Wick, a grieving widower played by Keanu Reeves, was pulled back into his former life as a hitman after being brutally beaten by thieves who stole his car and killed his dog, he has been excommunicated by the High Table of the criminal underworld. With still-bleeding wounds and a limp, he flees through the streets of Manhattan as a marked man with a price on his head. A binding promise from an old ally offers possible salvation, but even those close to our resilient protagonist are in mortal danger when an Adjudicator of the High Table arrives on the scene. The 2014 surprise action hit, John Wick, and its riveting 2017 follow-up, John Wick: Chapter 2, captivated audiences with their remarkably choreographed fight scenes and their genre mashups of spaghetti westerns, French New Wave, and early John Woo films. Unlike the sloppy shaky cam editing of most contemporary movies, the bloody shootouts, knife fights, and hand-to-hand martial arts confrontations of these two were observed from a distance with a fluid cinematographic style that depicted them almost as elaborate dance routines. As with its predecessors, the 2019 sequel, John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum, which reunites Reeves with director Chad Stahelski, is playing in opening weekend theaters along with trailers for upcoming action movies that are already obsolete in its wake. For this third outing, the physically adept Reeves is joined once again by Ian McShane (Deadwood), Lance Reddick (White House Down), and even Laurence Fishburne, who co-starred with him in The Matrix. Halle Berry (Die Another Day) delivers what is perhaps my favorite role of her career to date as a Casablanca associate of Wick who gets caught up in the fray along with her trained dogs. Mark Dacascos (Brotherhood of the Wolf) is also unforgettable as a worthy opponent who is not above the occasional comic relief moments. Of course, these John Wick films would not be complete without an enigmatic mean lady character, so Asia Kate Dillon (Orange is the New Black) steps up to the plate as the Adjudicator. Be on the lookout for brief, but memorable appearances from Anjelica Huston (Lonesome Dove), Saïd Taghmaoui (Wonder Woman), and Jerome Flynn (Game of Thrones). John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum is worth the price of admission for a brilliant knife-throwing fight early on as the title character attempts to find an exit from the city. As before, this film ups the ante with visceral moments that are not for the squeamish, but the anime-inspired garishness of the whole setup injects a spirit of fun into the equation. I love how these John Wick movies are blatantly unrealistic, with villain characters who often pause overtly during the choreographed fights as though they are waiting for their turn to be spectacularly disposed of by the lead. My favorite sequence is a Casablanca battle that comes across like the worst nightmares of the adolescent boys who feared the junkyard dog, “Chopper”, in the 1986 Rob Reiner film, Stand by Me. These dogs are trained not just to sic, but to sic specific parts of the human anatomy. Last edited by The Great Owl; 05-18-2019 at 09:07 PM. |

Nice review Great Owl.
------ Since the story continues where the last one left off with each film, I imagine Halle Berry will [Show spoiler] in John Wick 4 in some way, since her story arc was [Show spoiler] . But yes, Halle Berry and her two dogs kicked just as much ass as John Wick.
