I was actually looking at the Amazon UHD 3 for $39.99 sale and couldn't decide on a 3rd disc (first 2 are the HTTYD movies)...I was torn between Lucy (for the reference PQ), Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom or King Kong: Ultimate Edition...

I’ve only seen it the one time on DVD on my first standard def projector. Every time I plan to watch it I end up picking another title.

How does one find out about such a sale? I stumbled on it completely by accident by clicking on this thread, but then I checked and didn't see it posted on the general or 4k Bargain forums...How does it work? Just luck?

that Amazon sale has been going on for a few months now...as far as finding out about current sales you can always check the 4K deals sub-section...

I just got the steelbook yesterday - never had the original UHD as I didn't have 4K capability at the time. Like the understated art as opposed to the usual swatting at planes!

Jackson's Kong is fun & re-watchable, I will try to give it a spin in the near future. OTOH, am expecting the same issues that have dogged every edition - e.g. the weirdly flat 'pile of brontos' greenscreen effect.

I've never seen this which is weird as I love peter Jackson. The cgi in the trailers back in 2005 and the 3 hour run time scared me away but that's a really nice release from best buy.

The CGI kind of runs the gamut of quality, particularly in the Extended Edition, but I still think the CGI on Kong himself is one of the greatest examples of A+ computer graphics ever.

Watched my copy over the weekend and was quite impressed. Noticeable improvement in detail over the BRD. HDR seemed most noticeable in outdoor shots of foliage, sky, etc. - as Geoff states a few scenes showcased blinding sunlight (perhaps they need to pack Kong-themed shades in the case

).

Sound also was noticeably better, fuller and richer. Maybe not 'reference' (I know the transfer is a couple years old), but this was a worthwhile purchase.

My favorite line: "Hey buddy, I'm out of the bowl! I'm drying off my wings and truckin' across the lid!"

I bought the 4k steel so about to fix that problem. I've been in the mood for larger than life, bloated auteur led blockbusters (pirates, matrix trilogy) lately so this is a good time.
