I think you have to contact Warner Bros. support, this is their email for home video support - whv@wb.com I wonder if this is happening for everyone? You'd think they tested and fix this stuff before releasing it to the public or at least catch it before like Sony and issue instructions for replacement. For anyone with this issue, have you tried taking the disc out and cleaning it a few times and see if the issue still persists? I've had Warner Bros. discs act faulty before and a few rubs really fixed it for me.

I'll have to make a note to myself not to order movies from Target anymore.
This has happened to nearly ever BD/UHD I've ordered from them, which wasn't a big deal when I could exchange in-store. But that's why I canceled my Target order and went with Amazon.

My Amazon order for this and Beetlejuice shipped last night and are out for delivery. Can't wait.

There’s not enough information out there to warrant them issuing any sort of replacement program, at least not yet. I’ll check my disc tonight.

My Amazon pre-order finally shipped last night at 8PM. Not sure what the point of a pre-order is when I could get it faster by going to the store, but oh well. Glad I didn't cancel my order because I saved 3 cents with the Amazon pre-order guarantee! Hope you all are as lucky as I am to have this much more cash on hand!

Mine is the Zavvi steenbok, no playback issues here at all. Is the disc art any different between the two versions that you have?

Finally saw this last night & I have no idea what that Film’s At Home guy is talking about, maybe he just has a poorly calibrated setup but I thought this movie looked really nice in 4K. Wasn’t dark at all the way he described it & he was pretty adamant about it since he also brought it up in the Beetlejuice review. So yea definitely don’t take that review serious. This movie looks great & it deserves to as it’s one of the classics & childhood favorites of mine.

Man, just watched that filmsathome guy. How depressing a ‘reviewer’ like that gets 17k views from people who think he knows what he’s talking about, when he clearly doesn’t.

Sad seeing people saying they’ll pass on getting the disc in the comments, based on what he’s telling them.

So I try and understand the slipcover guy but it’s hard for me being
so tough. Do you keep all your shoeboxes? Give me an analogy please. I get 8 tennis racquets each year from my sponsor but I even throw the plastic bag they come in away. The same plastic bag you see on the pro tour when they pull out a new racquet. They’re doing that to keep the gut from being exposed.

I fail to see why so much obsession for slip covers over movie quality. Disc skips y’all live with it but slipcover damage means you boycott ordering from a company.

Sure it's just a "Slipcover" and the tough guys throw them away immediately, but still. It's not like we pay less

But there's also plastic wrapping around the blu-ray case, that's the bit you throw away. Just FYI

C'est la vie. There's been so much crap spouted by popular "pro reviewers" about UHD it's amazing the format has lasted this long, we can only hope that there are still many thousands more who don't take the word of people like FaH as gospel.

I called him out on it in the comments. His 'HDR does that sometimes and gives you a dark picture' was the final straw.

So I just watched the filmsathome review that people are referencing. Guess I should clarify that my relative disappointment with the release is not for the same reasons that guy's giving. I think this paragraph from Geoff's review explains why I wasn't terribly impressed:

Quote:
Originally Posted by Geoff D View Post

There's a lovely crispness to exterior shots and close-ups also give you some extra information, it's the medium shots of all the Goonies crowded together than can sometimes fall off but that's as much on the photography as the transfer. Goonies was shot anamorphic (a favourite of Dick Donner's) and even with the best will in the world you're only going to get so much acuity from ana glass of this vintage. That's not intended to excuse the 'grain management' side of things as that's in play for sure, but with something like Inception you'll get more detail coming through despite the processing owing to the sharper, faster modern anamorphics, while Goonies isn't going to have much more to give.
I actually happened to watch the Inception UHD last night and Geoff's comments really track with what I was seeing, namely that it had similarities to The Goonies UHD but with more detail. The Nolan UHD's in general have not been among my favorites so I guess it shouldn't surprise me that I wouldn't be impressed by a disc that uses a similar 'grain management' approach with less forgiving material. That said, I actually rather liked the Nolan-y orange skin tones and the lighting in general when the kids are down in the caves. If anything I would say that those cave sequences have the most impressive uses of HDR in the film which is just about the complete opposite of filmsathome guy's take.

So no, don't avoid this release because it's too 'dark'. I've enjoyed several dark films on the format, many made around the same time as The Goonies. But be aware that the Nolan treatment it's seemingly been given is a definite mixed bag.

Hmv gift set. I've contacted them and they replied saying that they are in conversation with the distributor about the error. So I think these disc errors are a bad batch which were sent to HMV. I could be wrong.
