I had problems getting my MM Kino 4k and Fury Road 4ks recently. The former is a "floater" from target (to open or not?), the latter was a used copy from eBay that was marked "delivered" yet not in my mailbox (community style so tracking would be "correct" I reckon). After a week of waiting was, I was just about to return the Kino and just settle for the box set, then, thankfully, the neighbor who received it returned it to me.

I won't be settling for the lesser WB disc after all! Woo

My steelbook set from Zavvi arrived... damaged. Fortunately, they gave me a decent discount, so I'm not too upset. (By the way, I just checked and the blu-rays are region-free, in case anyone was wondering.)

Okay... I did finally receive the Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome 4K from Amazon. The UPC code ends with 689064.

Is this the updated UPC for the corrected version?

If not, then I'll have to send an order back for the third time.

That's what Warner said, but the silent new print has lossless audio for the original mix, instead of a lossy version from the first run.

The thing is the original audio track for Beyond Thunderdome was correct yet lossy, while Mad Max 2 did not have the original audio at all (it was just a downmix from the new revisionist Atmos mix).

Owl, Warner Bros. quietly updated the audio on BT BUT they did not pull any of the old discs. So those are still in circulation.

I am not sure on UPC codes, although I believe that the Mad Max Box set has updated Road Warrior and BT discs if you want to spend money on that to be assured that you get correct discs.

Here's the quick timeline of my purchase...

February 15
I ordered the newly-released corrected editions of Road Warrior and Beyond Thunderdome from Amazon.

February 16
2. Amazon mistakenly shipped me two copies of Road Warrior 4K, one corrected and one uncorrected, with no Beyond Thunderdome included in the shipment. I notified Amazon, and sent the uncorrected Road Warrior back, telling them that I needed the February 1 corrected edition of Beyond Thunderdome.

February 17
Instead of sending the corrected Beyond Thunderdome, Amazon sent me another Road Warrior, an uncorrected original one. Again, I sent the Road Warrior back, and notified Amazon that they shipped the wrong item yet again.

February 18
Amazon sends me the Beyond Thunderdome 4K, but the UPC code ending in 689064, possibly indicating that it is the originally released 4K instead of the corrected one.


This mix-up is so maddeningly complex that the only way that I'll be able to notify Amazon in detail is through a phone conversation, but I need to know if the new February 1 corrected Beyond Thunderdome has a different UPC code first.

The only way to get a corrected Beyond Thunderdome might be to order the Anthology box, as you said, but I'd like to know for sure.

There isn't a corrected Beyond Thunderdome because it wasn't broken. They upgraded the original audio tracks to lossless on the disc included with the Anthology set. That's it. There is no 2/1 re-issue of the standalone. Right now, the only way to get the disc with the lossless audio is in the Anthology set.

Will copies of Beyond Thunderdome pop up at some point with the disc that has the lossless tracks? Nobody knows. As of now, if they do it won't be under a different UPC.

I ordered the UK Anthology set from Amazon.co.uk on Feb. 12th 2022 and I received the set with the upgraded MM2 and MM3 UHD discs.

Dumb question I’m sure, but are the main Atmos tracks ok in these on the old set or was that messed up too? The lack of response is annoying for these replacements.

Well, the main problem was the absence of the original mix. The Atmos mix for MM 2 is very revisionist, with many sound effects replaced. Apart from this (which infuriates purists), they should be ok.

According to this post on the MM 2 thread, the Atmos track does have differences. So they've encoded all tracks again, but I'm guessing it shouldn't change much on the Atmos part, at least regarding the replaced sound effects.

There's nothing on the disc art topside that indicates they're different, but the codes on the inner rings have been revised. For Thunderdome the code is 7000100042R0 on the old UK UHD (forget the L0/L1 at the end as that's just the layers) and 7000100042R1 on the new disc. For Mad Max 2 the code is 7000100043R0 on the old UK UHD and 7000100043R1 on the new disc. That's it, just the digit at the end that's changed to signify the revision.

On the US discs for Thunderdome it is 7000100042.1 on the old US UHD and 7000100042.2 on the new disc.
