I had the CECHE01 80GB PlayStation 3 it started to freeze every time i played a game or blu-ray so i sent it in to sony for them to fix it. They decided to send me a new/refurbished one but I did not receive my type instead they accidentally sent me the CECHA01 60GB Model. Which one is better by (Noise, Speed, Functions, Capability)
Should i keep the 60 gig or send it back and get the 80 gig back? ![]() |

60 gig probably has backwards compatibility. That is the rarest model and I would definitely keep that one. At the very least, sell it on eBay.

Hey guys, i have a problem with my laser. I recently bought a new KEM-400aaa part for my ps3. I replaced it with the old one. It worked just fine, until a few minutes it stopped spinning the disc. A red light from the laser would show and thats it. (I used a transparent disc to figure this out). Did i get ripped off from the ebay seller? I will exchange the part for another but before i do, i was wondering is there anyway to fix it before i get my refund?
Heres the video to explain: http://tinypic.com/r/awss9t/3 |

My old 60gb PS3 went out on me so I purchased a new 80gb Killzone 2/MGS4 bundle.
I saved my 60gb hard drive because it had all of my saves. My plan was to replace the 80gb hard drive in the new system with my old 60gb hard drive, back everything up with my thumb drive, replace that hard drive with my new 500gb western digital hard drive that I ordered, and then put all my saves back on it. Here's the problem, when I replace the 80gb hard drive with my old 60gb, it keeps giving me this error message, something about version 2.70 or greater, to please insert a storag disk (or was it storage medium) that contained this version or greater and then hit start and select at the same time. The thing is, I already had firmware 2.80 on my old system before it crapped out on me. There's no reason why it should be thinking I don't have an up to date version. Does anyone have any suggestions as to just how I could possibly fix this? |

Electronics break...nothing is perfect, keep that in mind.
I understand your frustration, but lets not go over board. It sounds like a faulty blu-ray player, as most with this error code have the same problems. You can find a few repair guys on e-bay, or send the console back to Sony for repair. Granted, a lot of blu-ray players in the PS3 are starting to go bad and I'm starting to wonder when mine will be next, but you'll have that with any electronic system you buy. Call your nearest Sony customer services, tell them what happened, make sure you tell them that you didn't do anything wrong to it. Then if they can't determine the problem over the phone, they will offer you a replacement (don't ask for a replacement, let them ask you). Accept, then they will send a delivery van with an already repaired PS3 and all you have to do is put your files onto a backup drive (computer, iPod, PSP etc.) then within 2-4 days they will bring a new repaired PS3 with updated parts and all you have to do is swap the systems without even changing the wires. Next, put your files back on to the new PS3, sort out your settings and you are back to next generation gaming! Without even worrying about getting a box big enough or going to the Post Office. Sending it yourself is too much hassle, and getting a drive from eBay would take you like a week to get it then 3 days to replace it correctly in working order. Hope that helps. |

Hmm I think the question is "Why me?"
![]() Sounds more like Morgan wants everyones support to turn sony in, to a specific product watch group for wronging its customers. I don't really think there is any answer to that... but maybe I should shut up... Last edited by dk3dknight; 07-23-2009 at 08:38 PM. |

I edited my post too late, im still thinking morgan feels wronged that the drive failed after the warranty and is attempting to call in the troops, maybe im wrong but thats again what I feel.
I feel that its a over reaction to the problem, perhaps anger has sorta disabled the logic drives if you will.. I still do not believe there is any solution that would satisfy morgon in this case, Im sorry I should have just left it alone.. |

You have to be extremely ignorant not to understand the concept of electronics having the potential to fail. Also if you are the ignorant of this fact, I highly doubt you'd make your way to this forum as well as thread to post about it. |

While its understood that electronics fail some people have it in there minds that it should have lasted longer, I had a computer motherboard fail, and this my father still could not understand because his computer has yet to fail and its older, but mine was over 6 years stuff happens.. Well I admit I tend not to accept the worst in people I guess in some ways im a pessimistic optimist.. no faith in society but all the faith in the individual. Perhaps im just a fool... ![]() Which brings me to a great line, who is more foolish the fool or the person who follows the fool... |

ssorry haven't kept up with this but here are some pictures and maybe some ideas for future issues.
http://img16.imageshack.us/img16/9762/dsc00806jg.jpg i pretty much wedged that piece in between to apply more pressure onto the chip. Like I said, sometimes this solves ylod or no video issues but will cause the fan to go to mach 5 speeds! instead, i used an aluminum piece bending it in the middle with thermal paste. This actually worked well but im still looking for better solution. http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/2669/dsc00882vee.jpg here is an idea I had. 1. drill two holes on opposite sides and using a screw with a nut washer to hold the aluminum in place. 2. use some short of spring mechanism to apply pressure onto the center of the plate. This in return apply pressure to the cpu. Or you an just bend the plate in the middle. Same effect. heres a vague picture. http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/4474/dsc00883eka.jpg hhope this helps. I would like some ideas as well. |
